"Lawrence O'Donnell ?@Lawrence 24m24 minutes ago
Henry Kissinger just got applause @HillaryClinton event when Bill Clinton quoted him complimenting Sec Clinton."
During the last debate, Hillary Clinton said Kissinger praised her for how well she ran the State Dept.
I thought that was a gaffe and the campaign would never mention Kissinger, again.
But apparently the Clinton campaign is looking for the votes of people who admire Kissinger.

(6,960 posts)Even the Clinton campaign can't be that tone deaf and ignorant of history.
I just don't believe it.

(17,064 posts)I was wtf at the time, and figured they would quickly drop that angle. But they're doubling down. Seriously WTF? This is a slap in the face and big middle finger to those of us who can never forget what a monster Henry Kissinger is. Are the Clintons that tone deaf, or are they giving us a big FU?

All the low information voters aren't on the Republican side. The Clinton's know this and do not hesitate to exploit it.

(5,400 posts)Kids associate it with bombing Viet Nam and Watergate*, older Democrats generally think sour practitioner of realpolitik. Only people who clap at that endorsement are likely soundly in the Clinton camp already.
*And why remind young voters what generation of politicians think Secretary Clinton is the cat's pajamas? What next, that Bush Sr. thinks of them as family?

(26,549 posts)They're counting on "Kids" not knowing what Kissinger actually did.
Remember, this year's 18-year-olds were born after Bill Clinton was impeached.

A quality likely considered "pragmatic" and smart by the Clintons.
Hillary sure did emulate his style quite a bit during her tenure as SOS.

(5,614 posts)Seriously. Can anyone recall a worse run campaign than this? I mean, since Goldwater v Johnson? I'm moving from resisting HRC to worrying about her, which is very uncomfortable for a Clinton non-fan like me.
She started out on this campaign with EVERY advantage possible from huge financial resources to world wide name recognition to the whole feminist thing (including Gloria Steinem for pete's sake), almost every politician with a D after his or her title, the boards of almost every labor union in the nation (cept for those annoying nurses and those librarian in California) and on and on and on. SHe even has the media in the tank for her.
And she's having trouble with an annoying balding Jew from Burlington/Brooklyn in his seventies and who jumps the gun on the righties by openly announcing he supports socialist ideals and likes Europe. Do you know why Tweetie and the Toad can't understand it? Because it is impossible, that's why. Yet, HRC is manageing to screw up the campaign royally, which for her by this point should be absolutely impossible. Impossible.
And Bill and her like being endorsed by Kissinger?
I really think something is very, very wrong with them and I'm beginning to think its not political.

(26,549 posts)When the narrative was set by the experts on cable news, and lining up the establishment meant the peons fell in line - we didn't hear anything else. And since the cocktail circuit is fine with Kissinger, they see him as a benefit.
Problem is, 1992 is 24 years ago. There's been some changes since then.
