2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumI am a strong supporter of President Obama, and I like Bernie Sanders!
I don't dislike Hillary Clinton, I just prefer Bernie. He's an idealist and I think that strategy - of shooting for the moon and getting as close as you can - has worked really well for the Republicans. They want to make abortion illegal, and started fighting with that goal despite it not being realistic. Look how far they've come. The same is true for every single issue they shoot for. They go all out. I think we should take the same approach. Go for it! Move mountains. Fight against how far back they've taken us. It isn't the only way to go - and I understand the reasons for taking a more pragmatic approach as well - but I think it's worth a shot.
I keep reading about how pro-Bernie people are anti-Obama. I think either Hillary or Bernie can take the baton from Obama and keep moving forward. I think he's done great things and I think the Democratic Party is much stronger for his presidency, and that he's the reason either Bernie or Hillary is likely to win the next election. Am I the only person who supports both of them?

(2,149 posts)And I feel Senator Sanders is our best candidate to represent my values and promise for my kids' future.
I did an awful lot of door-to-door work, and it was all worth it. I'd do it again. And I'll do it for either Bernie or Hillary, depending on who wins the nomination, but I do like Bernie's approach and I'll vote for him in the primary.

(3,343 posts)was better than either alternative, but I wouldn't be a huge supporter... I don't dislike him, I don't love him... somewhere in the middle I guess... but he's got a lot of the same problems as Hillary...
I support Bernie and am anti-Hillary...

(1,443 posts)Democrats have no problem with helping the Republicans push through their far right radical agenda:
NAFTA, 1996 Telecom Act, the gutting of Glass Steagull, the IWR, the TPP, DOMA, Welfare Reform, to name a few.
But when Bernie Sanders wants to do something progressive like raise minimum wage to $15 or push single-payer Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi say no way that's crazy, it will "never ever happen!"

(2,161 posts)I supported Obama in 2008 and 2012. I'm grateful Obama has resisted calls for full scale war in Syria. I strongly support the Iran deal.
But America cannot tolerate another President who refuses to prosecute Wall Street crime. So very many people have suffered, losing everything, and the shysters who created the crisis and stole millions of homes from Americans are still living the high life.

I like most of what President Obama has done, but due to where I live and the history here, I am opposed to "free trade" agreements. I recognize that President Obama has done a great deal of good despite his support for the TPP. There are lots of Republicans and lots of Democrats in favor of it. I am not, and Bernie Sanders seems like the guy to go to for those of us opposed to the TPP. I disagree with President Obama about this issue, but I still recognize all the good he's done, and with remarkable opposition to contend with.
I don't get angry or bitter if a politician can't do everything they hope to do in a political climate. If elected, Bernie will also not be able to do everything he wants, and he will also back away from some things if it seems to politically be a good idea to do so.
Though I'd love to see some folks in prison. People who lied to get us into war as well.

(2,161 posts)Did all those Wall Street contributions that Obama got lead him to take a pass on prosecuting Wall Street crooks? We'll never know.
We can be CERTAIN that Wall Street contributions won't influence Bernie, because he's not taking any! It's the heart of the reason I'm a Bernie Fanatic.
Dems to Win
(2,161 posts)We've lost Congress, the Senate, governorships, and statehouses. Losses at the state level have resulted in Repubs having the power to gerrymander congressional districts in state after state, practically cementing Repub control of Congress.

(5,995 posts)One is running on moving the ball forward and the other is wanting to incrementally improve on the last Dem in office and to be the 1st woman Prez. In 2008, HRC wanted to recreate the WJC term, now it's the third term of PBO. What's more "establishment" than a "me too, I'm next" campaign?
