(40,416 posts)"Doctor Henry Kissinger", the guy who was the model for Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove, complete with German accent.
Whatta Maroon!

(73,543 posts)life imitates art, perhaps. But the 1964 film's character was based upon Curtis LeMay, who desired to bomb most of the earth back into the stone age.

(40,416 posts)Maybe a little Werner von Braun in there.
Curtis LeMay was a madman. I prefer to think that George C. Scott's character was modeled on LeMay. I have heard for decades that Strangelove was Kissinger.
I may be wrong, but Strangelove certainly was not LeMay, who was clearly played by Scott. "Jet exhaust frying chickens in the barnyard!" And then there was his mortality estimations. That's LeMay. Not Strangelove.
BTW, don't you absolutely love Kubrick? I do.
My best to you.

(73,543 posts)might have predicted Henry's future, I suppose. But I suspect it was not the case.

(40,416 posts)But Kissenger was behind the scenes before Nixon. He was allegedly taught to tone down his German accent before he was allowed to speak in public.
I know. It sounds crazy, but that was the word on the political street at the time. That as well as he was Kubrick's model for Strangelove.
Amazingly, I have not Snoped this claim. Maybe I ought to. I'll be back.

(73,543 posts)While teaching at Harvard in the 1950s, he also served in a role advising the National Security Council. He already had a background in counter intelligence. And he had a long and close relationship with the Rockefellers, especially Nelson (who he supported in the republican primaries in 1960, '64, and '68. After Nixon won in 1968, he hired Henry, and it was then that Kissinger's truly evil nature rose to the surface.
He is a vile character, and perhaps the last human being on earth that any Democrat should seek advice from. The only specimen who is at the same level of evilness would be Dick Cheney.

(5,614 posts)It makes me think of the Kissinger/Cheney similarities as being like those between a Sith Lord and his Apprentice. I have no doubt who was the actual Master.

(40,416 posts)Although I was only obliquely aware of him at the time. It was the late 60's when I first heard of him. But what you posted aligns with what I heard back then.
And I agree that no self-respecting Democrat should cite him as a mentor, or a friend, or even an acquaintance.
As always.
