Related: About this forumTHE WORLD IS WATCHING -- Just got this inspiring message in Facebook
"My wife and I are attending Bernie's speech at Franklin Pierce University in NH this morning and ran into
two girls who came here from Denmark for 17 days to volunteer for Bernie Sanders. They are so passionate
and urge people to understand how important his election is to the rest of the world--including them.
They are going around NH this weekend to get out of the vote before the primaries and plan on going to
Boston and a couple other areas as well. Truly incredible.
The world is watching. The world is feeling the Bern!"

(19,326 posts)I was just thinking about this today, especially in the wake of the UK and Canada
progressive wins, and how Bernie's candidacy represents the US version of this
wave of international progressive awakening.. Very inspiring.
Thanks again

Yes, it is incredibly moving that people around the world are becoming aware of his campaign and how he could make the world a better place for everyone.
I love your positive OPs, BigBearJohn. It gets so crazy around here, we need more viewpoints like yours.
Thanks for another good OP!

(35,675 posts)It's really something, isn't it, that two people who don't even live here see how important this opportunity is (the opportunity to have this one candidate who is unblemished by corruption from the financial industry).
I'll bet that if we made up a list of elected gov't representatives who are not corrupted by Wall Street money, we wouldn't even reach 10. That's taking from both the House and the Senate.
I saw Hillary protesting how Bernie's position that Wall St. money expects something in return is not the case. She then went into her new framing technique, using Obama as an example of someone who took Wall St. money and did nothing for them in return.
I said (to the TV), "I have two words for you: Tim Geithner."
How can this woman even keep a straight face when she says such ridiculous things? Oh yeah, it's perfectly acceptable to put the fox in charge of the hen house.

(4,642 posts)I believe the world wants to see someone steady at the helm, lets face it, the world is wary of the cowboy USA, tired of wars that we start, they want, as we want, a leader that can't be bought and can't be used as a tool for the military industrial complex.

(10,622 posts)That Unlike Hillary will not continue the neocon dream into a war with Iran with a dash of Kissinger genocidal foreign policy.
Many other countries saw her vote for a war in Iraq, her tenure as SOS and many also saw her shout out to her mentor Kissinger (note to the uninformed, most of the world does not want a permanently destabilized and terrorist breeding Middle East and many countries want a trial where Kissinger is concerned, remember, we are one of only a very few countries that protect war criminals and consider them mentors).
Our grand mistakes and military adventurism make the world for them unsafe as well.
They have to live on the same blue marble as we do after all.

(9,298 posts)these 2 girls from Denmark coming here FOR 17 DAYS in support of Bernie. That length of time would up-end anyone's life, and yet, here they are.
BigBearJohn, anecdotes like this are going to get spread around big time and skyrocket donations to Bernie's campaign. Thanks so much for posting.

(8,287 posts)MUCH Better than the US media. Euronews is one of the best and it's broadcast in multiple languages.
Indeed the world is watching.
And Trump got a lot of media exposure here because of his bombastic mouth. How could you not know about Trump?
But I've seen a lot of information covering Bernie too. In fact, Europeans are very much paying attention because you know, The Leader of the Free World is being elected and they hope to goodness we don't elect another Bush war monger.
Democratic Socialism is not a dirty label here. It's called fairness and Europeans know it best. Remember, we're taking a lot of refugees here and they are really trying to help those people. But we get more reports about the refugees here too. Lots and lots of coverage.
The US media has blocked that out. And we all know why.

(17,064 posts)Media coverage of Bernie in the US is picking up a little. Some good, some bad, but even the negative coverage sends people to google to find out more about him. Young people especially, and they love Sanders.
He was pretty much unknown in US a year ago except to hardcore lefties, like me!

(8,287 posts)Ed Schultz or Keith Olbermann that introduced me to Bernie back in 07 or 08. I thought about Bernie being President way back then and I probably would have voted for him instead of Obama. As soon as Bernie spoke, I knew he was a good man and a rare politician. #FeelTheBern! You're welcome.

(5,995 posts)Obama has rebuilt our world reputation, but a GOP win from that clown car would likely bring universal derision beyond your wildest imagination.
Think they like the idea that we could elect a Socialist, regardless of the modifier, but either Dem would bolster their faith that the US has righted the ship and can be counted on to lead.
BTW, was in Germany 2002-2006, so not just speculating on their reaction.
LittleGirl
(8,287 posts)I lived in Germany from 07-09 and experienced the same. I'll never forget hearing "you re-elected that guy (W)!" That fact just blew them away.
And, I used to work in IT and for the main server in Ohio (in 04) that recorded and reported election results for the state to have its IP address changed the night of the election is something that makes me believe some hokey stuff happened that night. I do not trust electronic voting. I tend to only trust paper ballots that take much longer to count because, well, they can be recounted too. Hopefully, our elections are safe because we know that 2000 and 2004 was messed up.
Indeed, the Germans would love for us to vote in a socialist. At least the ones we know do.

I read German, Swiss and Austrian newspapers on internet and all they mentioned Trump, Clinton , Cruz. Only a few times Bernie in "Der Spiegel" a German news magazine and also, an extensive article in Frankfurter Allgemeine about Bernie and Hillary(comparable with NY Times) . Karlheinz Nellen

(6,679 posts)Agreed that a small minority around the world are watching. I have no doubt world leaders and political junkies around the world are watching. If the people we are bombing are even able to come up for air long enough to notice (which I doubt) they are probably watching too.
Thing is one of Bernie's ideals is that we vastly reduce our footprint around the world. I believe he'd be thrilled if we got to a place where our own people were not so egotistical to assume the whole world is just holding their breath on our every move.
