Related: About this forumRon Paul praises Sanders, blasts Cruz
Rand Paul, who has ended his campaign, had this to say about Cruz, Politico reports:
You take a guy like Cruz, people are liking the Cruz they think hes for the free market, and [in reality] hes owned by Goldman Sachs. I mean, he and Hillary have more in common than we would have with either Cruz or Trump or any of them so I just dont think there is much picking, Paul said of the Texas senator on Fox Business Varney & Company" on Friday.
While Paul thinks no candidate left fully reflects Libertarian views, he offered some praise for Democrat Bernie Sanders:
On occasion, Bernie comes up with libertarian views when he talks about taking away the cronyism on Wall Street, so in essence hes right, and occasionally he voted against war, the former Texas congressman said when asked if there was a candidate who was truly for the free market.
Worth sharing with any Libertarian friends!

(11,802 posts)but, the point of an election is to get the most votes. I personally think Sanders has huge crossover appeal. I'm seeing it in person in my life. Purely anecdotal, I realize. Rand Paul isn't anecdotal.

(24,979 posts)Of Sandes, Paul said he's good for wanting to end Wall Street cronyism and occasionally voting against war - you got a problem with those reasons?

this is not an endorsement of paul but rather a commentary about his apparent approach to labels and pigeon holing.

(12,655 posts)like i said, paul is not a good poster person, but his comment is an interesting take on an election in which many could be crossing party lines

(12,655 posts)i was making the point that many people are realizing that party and personal identity politics are in the past. i specifically said it was NOT an endorsement of paul or his policies.

It's OK if they want to vote for our candidates, but they shouldn't expect to inject their regressive bullshit into our platform.

(486 posts)Bernie has the right attitude about cross-party relations. He knew the "conservatives" at Liberty Univ wouldn't agree with him on every plank in his platform. But there is common ground to be found with nearly any adversary.
As the Republican field thins, more and more disillusioned voters whose preferred candidates have fallen from the race, will gag at their remaining choices. These Republicans (and many less-committed Indies) will turn away, and choose between Bernie with whom they partly agree, or Hillary who they've been taught to despise above all others.
If it's Sanders vs Trump (or Cruz) in the GE, Bernie will be our President.

Yeah Bernie will steal some of the Ron Paul voters away from the gop. Nothing to be ashamed of there. Those are all good policies.
