2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIf you've got a strong stomach, go browse Free Republic for a while
Something you'll notice is that many GOP politicians that you would readily define as "right wing teabaggers" are actually thought of in their universe as "RINO sellouts."
I like to look at Free Republic when some big piece of bipartisan legislation passes. Like clockwork, the left is claiming Democrats sold out our values to Republicans, and the right is claiming that the exact opposite happened.
What does this have to do with GD: P? Well, most people here support Bernie Sanders, and to put it mildly don't much care for Hillary Clinton. I have no problem with that. However, when I hear everyone that happens to support Hillary dismissed as a right wing, corporatist, R in D's clothing, I have to laugh. I wonder where the hell I'm at when people like Barbara Boxer are being thrown under the bus.
That's why I bring up Free Republic, It seems to me that this forum is quickly becoming the other side of the same coin.
That's not who we should be as Democrats. We're supposed to be the sane party. We're supposed to be the intelligent party. Last time I checked, respecting people you disagree with and finding common ground was a liberal value. It seems that many Bernie supporters on this site believe in the politics of slash and burn.
I still have no problem with Bernie Sanders himself, but the way his supporters are acting is starting to make me really, really hope he loses. I don't want the party to go the way they want to take it. During last nights downhill, I made a note of how humble Bernie was when speaking about himself. Some of his supporters could learn a lesson from that.

(256 posts)I feel like Sanders will affect the Democrats in a similar manner that Nader did. I too notice a common theme with the Bernie supporters that is "unpleasant". I really like Bernie, and I don't think that is his intention, but makes me wonder. The fact that he was an Independant that became a Democrat to run the race makes me very uneasy. It seems like his followers are very young, idealistic to a point that it's laughable, hate others succe$$ (which shame on them), self-entitled, also a strange hatred for Hillary that could rival the Republican's hatred for her, foolish really.
The upfront hatred for Hillary really gets to me...why because she is rich and has connections? Good for her! No, I don't think that's why and it makes me sad. They will throw up any argument not to vote for her instead of seeing her for what she is...a fantastic candidate.
