A new Socialism. Here's what Bernie's revolution could bring to your workplace.

Instead of top down, such as government control, there would be a new approach. What is happening in the Labour party, with respect to the worker/employee arrangement, is that when a company is to be sold, or floated on the stock exchange, workers will get the first option to purchase the company. A first option. And the government is going to finance them to do it. It cannot be bought by another company, or made into a joint stock company that rich can buy. A transformation from a top down capitalist economic system to one of worker cooperatives would be a new way of operating.

Now you are on the board of directors, along with everyone in that company. You no longer work 8 hours per day, having to ask for permission for this or for that. Now you have a voice, and control over your employment. You own and operate the business. Everyone is a democratic participant. Work is no longer about just money, but a part of your life.

the first option goes to the workers. So if they fail to purchase, then one can surmise that the company is then available for other buyers. No doubt there are lots of details that have, or will be, worked out.

It's important because there's a big distinction between the old Socialism (top down), and the new Socialism (democratic).

As a business owner for over 10 years, I struggled with ways to structure my operation so it would build directorship among the workers. I didn't know enough at the time about how to do it.

The idea's time has certainly come, though.

And have no wish to allow happiness in others as well.

Conservative Republicans, that is, not all are cranky old.....
