Sanders Campaign Dismisses Latino Activist and DREAMer Astrid Silva On Twitter as a "Press Hit"

By First Amendment

I wrote a diary about Astrid Silva’s ringing endorsement of Hillary Clinton.

When I was writing it up, I decided to check for some reaction on Twitter. Scrolling through Armando’s Twitter feed, he retweeted several tweets about how the Sanders campaign dismissed Silva's endorsement.

One tweet was from a Sanders paid staffer, who is his Press Secretary for Latino outreach. She dismissed Astrid’s endorsement as a "press hit”. The Sanders for President Twitter account retweeted this very tone deaf response.

Astrid Silva is a DREAMer and a well known activist in the Latino community. To dismiss her endorsement as a “press hit” was poor form and foolish. Even worse, it's tone deaf. Latino’s look up to activists like Astrid Silva. She’s actually fought for DREAMers and immigrants.

She could have worried about her status, but she didn't. She fought for others!

I understand being disappointed about not receiving an endorsement. I don't understand going after and belittling people who are champions in the Latino community. Why does every Clinton endorsement have to go this way?

How about some class? How about some respect for an activist who’s been fighting for the Latino community?

Is this the type of Latino outreach the Sanders campaign believes is effective?

If so, it's a losing strategy.

I heartily second this ...

How about some class? How about some respect for an activist who has been fighting for the Latino community?
