Chris Matthews and Hillary's terrible interview

Last edited Wed Feb 3, 2016, 07:58 PM - Edit history (3)

Here are the parts that stand out to me.

Answering a question about spending time in NH...

"But I just want people to understand what I'm offering, what I believe we can do. You know, ideas that sound good on paper but can't create results for people are just that, good ideas on paper."

I have no problem with criticizing candidates or claiming their ideas can't pass, but undermining Democratic ideas is a problem. I take Hillary's comments to mean that reducing the retirement age can't create results for people and are just good ideas on paper." I take Hillary's comments to mean that "single payer" can't "create results for people and are just good ideas on paper."

Lowering the retirement age and passing single payer not only would "create results for people" and are "good ideas on paper", but they are a matter of life and death for some people. It is not only insulting, but it undermines the entire party.

Hillary: "We've got to get back to the middle. We've got to get back to the big center. We got to get back to solving problems. That's how we make progress in America.

That's not how Obama made progress in America. And Hillary is reminding us why most of us supported Obama in 2008...

Hillary continued...
"And I totally appreciate how exciting it can be to be involved in a campaign that really just puts out these great big ideas, but I want folks to stop and think no matter what age you are. OK, we agree on getting the economy going. We agree on raising incomes. We agree on combating climate change. We agree on universal coverage."

We do? When did Hillary start supporting universal health-care?

Hillary continued...
"Who's got the track record? Who's got the results? Who can actually produce the kind of change for yourself and your family, and for your country."

Here goes the old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn...

Matthews: "I think you're offering a lesson in civics...." Paraphrasing: Democrats did all these great things through history. Back to Chris' lecture: "It's a tough fight. You need 60 votes in the Senate. You need 218 in the house. And if you don't have them, nothing gets done."

Hillary: That's right.

Chris: "Then the Bernie people need to be taught; not him, he won't be taught. The kids behind him need to be taught this is how it works in our system. You can call for revolution, but it ain't gonna happen. There ain't going to be a revolution. There's going to be an election, an inauguration, and then there's going to be a congress sitting with you gotta do business with no matter who gets elected.

The kids need to be TAUGHT. They are too dumb to figure out that everything is fine and they need to wait their turn. Bullshit. The "kids" have seen themselves get thrown into massive debt to go to school. The kids have seen the toll the recession played on their parents, friends, and themselves. The kids have seen the toll the wars have taken on their families and friends. Maybe they don't want to lose their health-care when they lose a job? Maybe they don't want their kids to go into unmanageable debt just to go to school? Maybe they don't want war to be the first option or the best option?

More Matthews...
"Revolution sounds like a pass. You don't have to have logic anymore. I'm going to have a revolution and pay for everything."

Hillary: "Well, where I come out on this, I don't think our country or the American people can wait.... Our system is set up to make it difficult. You know, checks and balances, separation of powers. Our founders knew that if we were going to survive as a great democracy that they were creating, we had to have a system that kept the passions at bay. We had to have people that were willing to roll up their sleeves and compromise. We couldn't have ideologues that are just hurling their rhetoric back and forth. We had to actually produce results. That hasn't change since George Washington. Democracy is a fragile organism Chris. People have to believe in it, that their voices count, that their votes count. But then they got to see results from their investment in our democracy."

Indeed!

Destabilizing the middle east was not just a "good idea on paper." She carried it out -- to the max.

didn't give in to the "center" - and instead used his executive privilege.

If "center" is supporting TPP - then I'm glad I color outside the lines.

The frontrunner Dem candidate and the MSM, hand in hand, telling everybody who thinks things could and should be better to sit down and relax and settle for what you get within the parameters you're allowed.

Revolution has to start somewhere. Now is the time. Your inane babble has to stop. It is time to consider that the populace is fed up. OK, some things need more time but the time to start is now, not never

I posted this elsewhere on DU.

Tweety Has Been Exposed - Perhaps This Has To Do With His Wife And Her Running For Congress....

Kathleen Matthews, Chris Matthews wife, endorsed Hillary Clinton for President.

Also check out this link from the Washington Post regarding - Kathleen Matthews campaign donor money: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/kathleen-matthews-pulls-ahead-in-fundraising-for-md-congressional-seat/2015/10/15/d03b8598-7353-11e5-9cbb-790369643cf9_story.htm

Here's a snip from that article: Some of the names on Matthews’s donor report read like a class reunion of Clinton administration figures

I'm thinking Tweety needs to recuse himself from reporting on the Dem primary race. Seems like he's trying to sour the name of Bernie because his wife both endorsed Hillary and receives money from many that are close to the Clinton's.

I would say that this is a conflict of interest and should be taken up with MSNBC.

Now maybe the bootlicking makes sense.

I thought he was gonna come in his pants when His Chimperial Majesty declared Mission Accomplished. He sucks up to the powerful in the establishment like a barnacle to a rock.

they may as well go slit their throats if they did. it's sad to see them pushing diminished expectations as the norm. it has been for some time, but THAT is not going to earn her the votes of people who NEED and DESERVE a better future. she's about as inviting as a gasoline enema.

I don't think "roll up their sleeves" means what she thinks it means.

That's what she calls universal coverage. Sanders doesn't think we need to give them tens of billions of dollars every year to do nothing but obstruct people's access to healthcare. When she says that she and Bernie agree on healthcare, that is a lie.
