2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie said something disgusting about Hillary?
MSNBC showed a clip today of Hillary Clinton speaking before a small group,
during which she said she was really disappointed in Bernie Sanders.
She claimed he said something about her that was disgusting, and a real low blow.
What upset her so much?
Bernie said: Well, I guess Hillary Clinton may be progressive on some issues.
OMG! How dare he?!

(4,961 posts)that was the month before she said she was progressive - which was a month before she said we have to govern from the center . . .
She really has no shame.

And I asked you to LIST her leftist positions, not who might support her.
And I'm far to the left of Bernie.

(13,390 posts)She skipped the Putting Gamilies First candidated forum. Martin O'Malley and Bernie Sanders attended and had the guts to answer unscripted questions. When she discovered Hillary dissed us, one of her staffers in attendance quit her campaign.
There were #BLM protesters from STL there wondering where she was. She lost support from people in all of the demographics you listed that day.

Okay, I'm a self identified progressive. But, as an activist, I spent years working for moderates down South. Geez..
So stupid. Who said anything about "working" with moderates. Bernie has spent years working with moderates. What does this have to do with how you self-identify? She makes no sense. She says she self-identifies as progressive. Well Hillary self-identifies as progressive - moderate - and center.
If you are going to tweet, Donna. you should at least make sense!

The question in the long run is whether these disparate intraparty bases of support will hang together in a general election on behalf of the eventual nominee. Certainly similar cleavages in 2008 did not keep Barack Obama from assembling what we now know as the Obama Coalition of young and minority voters and certain categories of women. Since young voters are the most marginal electoral participants of them all, Team Clinton should be especially worried that under-30 voters won't turn out for her in a general election. Indeed, some Republicans fantasize about stealing the youth vote behind a candidate like Marco Rubio, with his whole new-generation, aspirational message (offset, to be sure, by a Reagan-era economic outlook and a Cold War zest for militarism). This is another reason Hillary should be careful about letting her competition with Bernie Sanders become too savage.
