Insiders Predicted That Bernie Sanders Would Be No Threat to Hillary Clintonby Zaid Jilani

The stunning virtual tie between Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton in Iowa came after months of mainstream media pundits and leaders of the political establishment confidently predicting that Sanders would be no match for Clintons electoral machine there or anywhere, for that matter.
GO Bernie!!!
Status Quo / No We Can't 2016! is going DOWN

(2,382 posts)... they're still disputing that one tenth - can barely be considered a "WIN" at all. And given how horrifically wrong the polls have been thus far, you might not want to hitch your wagon to any of 'em. Try hitching it to a team of unicorns; they're more reliable indicators than any of those hammer head pollsters that call themselves "experts." I can't believe that those guys get paid to be wrong.

(45,251 posts)Thank heaven, it wasn't enough to bury Bernie in Iowa.

(7,830 posts)it doesn't have such a hold on US anymore.
Its actually helping us see their propagandizing ways more clearly too. We're able to view through the filter of skepticism. Many of us, anyways.

(45,251 posts)I think a lot of it is "word of mouth" but also including as "mouth" things like reddit and Twitter. Bernie is so inspiring and plain spoken and ran all over the country for rallies.
At first, I thought, geez, just focus on the early states, then spread out. Great, 30,000 in L.A. but when is California's primary? In hindsight, he knew what he was doing.

Huge leads in 40 other states maybe todays headline, but just like with Iowa, things can change.
And we Hope for Change, most of us anyways. More people will be getting on the Bern Train, that's for sure.

(14,576 posts)FELT THE BERN.
He flies coach, he wears shabby sweaters and off the rack suits, he does NOT live in a mansion and his net worth is under $350K. He represents me BETTER than any presidential candidate in my voting lifetime, for sure.
Everyone else is telling us that we CAN'T have what we want; instead we'll have to settle for a nice forever war and far fewer things that would actually help us.

(7,830 posts)I agree, a link would be helpful. You Clinton people...
You don't get to try to play "comeback kid" on a tie when most of the polls had hillary ahead by 3-5%. I am sorry, but basing her "comeback" or "victory" on a tie because some overly enthusiastic DU'ers said Bernie was going to win is absurd.
The Wizard
(12,545 posts)Raising corporate cash for TV ads is so 1990s. The one who seizes the Internet and uses that power most effectively wins. Hillary lost in 08 because she adhered to the old model.
The Internet and TV remote have marginalized 1990s election strategy.
Don't get me wrong. I like Hillary and will vote for, and support her should she be the candidate.
The idea of getting enough fence sitters to come over to your side so as to effect an election is ineffective with the current political tribal climate . The name of the game is energizing the base, and the Republicans with their propaganda network have convinced their cult that Democrats are the mortal enemy and must be destroyed. They always come out to vote because they're convinced they will all die if Democrats are elected. Pox News and hate radio have perfected the propaganda techniques established by Joseph Goebbels. The radical right wing propagandists have their cult believing that minorities are stealing their tax money and their jobs, and that Democrats enable minorities and are the reason the ignorant bigots are victims.
They are indeed victims, but victims of those they blindly support out of the worst fears and lowest instincts.
Bernie's message of leveling the playing field through universal health care and education at the expense of the wealthy elites who have gamed the system since Reagan snookered the masses in 1980 is gaining momentum. The idea that we can't get good things done to promote the general welfare as prescribed in our Constitution's preamble runs counter to the American can do spirit.
We can, we will and we must make opportunities for the working class a reality. If we don't we could be facing Paris, 1789.

(2,983 posts)we all knew Sanders could never, ever be a threat to Clinton winning the nomination. We all knew he could never, ever, expect to defeat her in any serious contest.
Perhaps we should examine all those other "never, ever"s, that keep getting tossed around...

(396 posts)From the very begnning it was clear the establishment was trying to tell people who to vote for as they always do. It's gotten so bad that media hacks like Chris Matthews and others are openly attacking half the Democratic Party. This is borderline voter intimidation.

(14,576 posts)That's why he's gonna end up winning this thing. Because we all are protesting too.
What's that? A political revolution?
