STUNNING reversal from my teabagger sister.

I've been complaining about my sister for years here. She's a retired school librarian, a suburbanite, not dumb, but she was totally propagandized over the years to the point where she was on Lucianne.com for years, joined the NRA for creds, joined the Tea Party, loved Limbaugh and Levin and Hannity, was a FAUX devotee. I have despised her politics, and it has deeply affected our relationship.

Today.......................she confessed that she believes that talk radio has ruined this country. She despises Rush, Hannity, and Levin.

She hates Trump and finds him revolting. She is very afraid of Cruz and thinks he is slimy and creepy. Rubio is too young, she says. The only Republican candidate she likes is Christie because "he says what he thinks". But she knows he is going nowhere. She feels sorry for Jeb.

And she said.........."I might have to vote for Bernie."

And then she said........."Anybody but Hillary."

GULP. OMG.

Whatever her merits, the mere mention of Hillary Clinton usually elicits dirty looks and painful groans from independent voters, and outright rants from Republicans - who would then feel incredibly motivated to go vote if she's on the ballot.

Not so with Bernie.

Baptist U and other places to talk to people who were 'not us'. If you took republican or conservative or whatever out and put in Muslim, it was sort of coming from the same place. They are out there and Bernie is BRAVE to go to speak to them. He looks at them and sees Americans. If we can't do the same, then how are we different than the pugs who exclude everyone they don't like, understand or feel have hope to change? Bernie is amazing and he reached your sister. He sees us ALL and asks why not. I am glad for you.

Tue Feb 2, 2016, 11:43 PM
Feb 2016

She's more willing to flip flop and contort her positions to carry the majority than Bernie is, doesn't that make her a better politician?! The truth is, hillary may be a great politician, but bernie is a statesman, and a leader. I really want to see a woman as president, but hillary isn't left enough for my taste, and although I will pinch my nose and vote for her if she ends up on the ballot, it will be my last vote for the democratic party. I want change in the Oval office, and the wife of a former president who takes money from big banks and has already showed her contempt for single-payer healthcare doesn't cut it. She is jagged and bitter enough to drive moderates toward trump, and that is inexcusable. She needs to be more likeable, and she totally lacks authenticity. Comes off like an egomaniac demanding validation. Bill seems to be wasting away, hiding his health condition to keep the focus on hills, I applaud the effort but she is not destined for the white house. The presidency isn't an entitlement and having earned her stripes means nothing in a general election. Hillary may need this win, but America needs a real leader more.

This was always her dream, and her being would elected would be - as Bernie might put it - a yooge historical moment. That in itself is appealing to a lot of people, and I don't blame them.

But, as you explained, she's not what we need at this moment. We need principles; we need vision. We need, just as you said, a real leader.

She's 68 and knows she doesn't have the energy to run again in another 4 or 8 years, its now or never. So progressives should just put their dreams on hold while she gets her due. That's what America is about, isn't it? We all stand around holding our breath while she receives her birthright; after the bush dynasty, this is de rigueur for the American presidency. I've spent years living abroad in europe, and this apparent 'passing of the crown' has diminished the American brand quite severely. To much of the world we are hardly better than Putin and the Medvedev charade. This ''keep it in the family" era has got to end, our very lives are at stake.

A whole lot more people who claim to be conservatives would be backing Bernie if he had an R after his name instead of a D.

His ideals are for extremely limited use of military, using taxpayer money as frugally as possible while still getting the best bang for the buck, and keeping government out of our private personal decisions. THAT is what "conservatives" used to stand for so it's a no brainer she would like what Bernie has to say IMHO.

The Republicans can call themselves "conservative" all they want but really all they've done is twist what the term means to the point it's not even recognizable anymore. Really all they have left is Talibornagains and Corporate Moochers. There's nothing conservative about either one of those groups. Granted they use the gunhumpers and bigots but when you look at them they generally fall into one of the two main categories.

Anyways, glad to hear she's coming back around to her senses.

My uncle was a POW from the fall of Corregidor until the liberation of the Philippines. I have all of the letters he wrote home, and he was an excellent reporter of the installations and activities prior to the Japanese invasion. Further he kept a diary while a POW, and it is in the family. I found that in this same city is another woman who has her uncle's letters and he was a POW on Corregidor, too. She is also a writer (as am I) and we have been in contact about collaborating on something using these materials.

Oh, and by the way. My cousin is also for Trump. He has been totally brainwashed by hate radio. He is a good family man and comfortably fixed. But he is gone to the dark side.

28. The movie I wrote, 300,000, is on IMDB as an "under development" so you need IMDB Pro
Tue Feb 2, 2016, 11:30 PM
Feb 2016

to get to see info on it as now.

Most of the material I used was from interviews of survivors, archives from the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall (the museum in which I worked for two years), going to kill sites and mass grave sites, interview with descendants (my wife's great grandmother was gang raped by the Japanese in Danyang in 1938 and left to die in a muddy ditch on the side of the road. Luckily, she was found by her neighbors a couple hours later) and visits to Japan (namely the disgusting Yasukuni Shrine).

The only liberties I took:

1: I gave the Japanese an attorney, when in reality, they defended themselves.

2: I made people into composites ad changed their names out of requests and respect to those I interviewed.

3: I setup the reflaring of the Chinese Civil War almost instantly after the 1946 Trial, rather than having it stew another seven months.

4: I made the principle female character's English (the Chinese interpreter for the American journalist) better than it should have been because I needed her to be more interactive to the viewer.

So, 95% of the movie will historically accurate.

....I found, in an antique store, a group of original photos taken in Japanese occupation of Nanking. Many photos of beheadings. Grisly stuff. I was shocked, and shouldn't have been. But it was up close and personal in snapshot photos. I did not buy the photos, but probably should have just to make sure they were preserved by someone.

He would rant and rave about Democrats not being worth a fuck, rotten, no good, whatever.

But his cleaning ladie's son? Now there is a good conservative man!! He would send him his used Newsmax magazines - in prison.

Before the father in law died, he was buying gold and silver bars and keeping them in his house. He told the cleaning ladie to keep it quiet. I was worried we we going to find him dead with his stockpile missing if his "good conservative's" friends heard about an old man stockpiling gold.

37. Sounds like my sister
Tue Feb 2, 2016, 11:42 PM
Feb 2016

except that mine has not seen the light yet. Understand that my sister is now retired and living in a cabin in a national forest...a forest that would not exist without federal government protection. She and her husband are drawing social security as their only form of income because they did not plan for retirement (but vociferously complained about the social security entitlement system...not even kidding). They are taking care of their grandson because their son and his soon to be ex-wife simply could not be bothered to take care of his medical issues, which are now being completely paid for by medicare/medicaid (I pushed them in that direction and they were amazed at how well that system works). She once told me that Obama had not submitted a budget in 4 years, I looked at her and replied that he is required to submit budgets yearly, but the republican House has to actually act on them, all I got was a blank look, I actually face-palmed.

50. NOTICE--the inability to reason?
Wed Feb 3, 2016, 12:21 AM
Feb 2016

This "half-reasoning," most apparent in the final quote is so typical of a vast number of Americans. T

The inability to fully bring reason to bear on political matters seems to be the norm among folks like this. RW TV and radio fosters a confusion that (I would argue is intentionally designed to do so) begets an incoherent world view.

Having lost their compass, these folks are insecure and prone to fear. RED meat.

The problem is, many of them bring their nasty republican attitude with them. They may agree with Bernie on some economic policies, but they are against the other 90% of what democrats stand for.

70. That's ok isn't it?
Wed Feb 3, 2016, 11:01 AM
Feb 2016

The root of our social issue focus lies in an economic system where the economic elite defrauds the public out of their piece of the pie by pitting them against each other politically on issues that don't belong in the political realm.

That's the entire premise behind the infiltration of the Democratic party by the 3rd Way types.

It is also, IMO, the foundational principle if Hillary's campaign.

Therein lies what's most frustrating to see: The answer is so obvious but huge swaths don't unite against the commonality they share but have a "crabs in a bucket" mentality over their pet issues.

"Crabs in the Bucket" Crab mentality, sometimes referred to as crabs in the bucket, is a way of thinking best described by the phrase, "if I can't have it, neither can you."

(I picture crabs in a bucket trying to escape as crabs below them pull the escapers down because it they can't get out, they won't let the escaping crabs get out either)

Unlike your sister she has always hated the tea party and RW talk radio (she loves NPR). She has always voted for the R presidential candidate except in 2008 when she voted for Obama. She would most likely vote for Bernie over Trump or Cruz. But she also would probably vote for Rubio if he's the nominee.

Unfortunately, your story hits home over here. The fascist asswhipe levin brainwashed my father to the point where theres no hope for him. I've gotten into fights with him over it. Somehow levin always comes up. I say hes a fascist and my dad tells me I should listen to him sometime because he would "scare the shit out of you" Then I always come back with "fear is all people like him have." and that shuts him up pretty well most of the time. I think hes at the point of no return now.

Your teabag family member doesn’t like Hillary? Stunning news, simply stunning! Newsflash – if a teabagger hates Hillary chances are they ain’t gonna like a socialist either.

Then again I suppose the main reason for this thread was to let us know how much she hated Hillary. Nothing more, nothing less – another anti-Hillary thread.

Got it. Stunning news, indeed!

that your sister's also been subjected to a quarter century of Anti-Clinton Propaganda.

As have we all - just look at GD Primary any day of the week. Just look at this thread. "Anybody But Hillary" is precisely what the GOP wants Democrats and Independents to think, and I'm sure as fuck not playing into their hands.

And don't go tarring me as a Hillary Supporter just because I'll happily vote for her. I'm not happy with either her OR Sanders, as I'm an Ageist.

90. I was surprised by my Mother after Iowa's caucus
Wed Feb 3, 2016, 04:51 PM
Feb 2016

Being originally from Iowa, I was anxious to call her after the caucus to ask her how it went, she's a life long Republican. To my surprise when I called her she said she didn't go. She has never missed the caucuses! She said she couldn't find anyone to go with (she has lots of friends). I asked her why she didn't go with my brother. She said she didn't know if he went. Sounded kind of sad. Then kind of exasperated mentioned Trump, how embarrassing it would be to have a President Trump. All my life my parents have been moderate but devout Republicans. After my Dad died, she began to turn in to a bit of a RWNJ, much to my liberal sisters and my chagrine. I guess between Fox and her RW friends without a filter (my Dad) she kind of got co-opted. I am hoping this may be somewhat of a trend, they may be realizing they have been bamboozled.
