Milennials of color are the future of the party, and they have not voted yet

Last edited Tue Feb 2, 2016, 10:22 PM - Edit history (1)

Milennials are not a homogenous group. They are divided by race and ideology just like every other generation.

Case in point: white milennials supported Mitt Romney in 2012. 51-44

Last night--though there were some people of color of all ages-it was an overwhelmingly white electorate.

Obama won the youth vote because of milennials of color.

People who are talking about how young people have spoken need to keep in mind that we haven't heard from the VAST majority of non-white ones, and won't until Nevada and South Carolina.

Funny thing is that we will never know who won't he popular vote--precinct delegates are not the same as actual votes.

3. Even the tiny number of minorities in Iowa are being credited (or blamed) with Hillary's victory

there

And among the 9 percent of non-white Democratic caucus-goers in Iowa on Monday, Clinton won by a wide margin, 58-34 percent. http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/schisms-carve-iowa-contests-leaving-murky-political-calculus/story?id=36656482

And like you said, this phenomena is probably going to get more pronounced as the states get even more diverse. And Obama won not only because of millenials of color, black women put Obama over the top more than anyone.

I know all of this runs counter to the 74 black folks love Bernie videos that have -- mysteriously -- popped up in this forum right now. Sorry about that.

4. They could wind up voting for Bernie.

Contrary to what some partisans in both camps say, they have free will and will vote for the candidate they--in their own independent judgment--prefer.

I think the "POC owe Bernie their vote" folks and the "POC votes belong to Hillary forever" folks should each have a 32 ounce can of STFU. But I'm grouchy, having taken this forum out of my trashcan.

5. No one has ever suggested otherwise. And acknowledging the current reality is not saying that

people can't exercise their free will and vote for whomever they'd like. It's just acknowledging the current reality.

But I'm grouchy, having taken this forum out of my trashcan.

You could not have picked a WORSE day to do this to yourself. I knew it would be crazy here and I'm still blown away by some of the stuff I'm seeing today.

6. You aren't saying any of that nonsense.

I have seen some people talking as if POC had already all given their votes to Hillary, like it was a done deal.

They may very well support her en masse, and people ought to respect their choice if they do so.

Going on vacation tomorrow. Good timing.
