2016 Postmortem

Looks like having my support at the start of the primaries is the kiss of death.
Glorfindel
(9,734 posts)What a President he would have made!
Recursion
(56,582 posts)he did die before the end of his hypothetical 2nd term, so maybe there was a point there.

(464 posts)trying to convince family, friends and acquaintances to vote for Martin was like pulling teeth. The dem side has really only been a two person race. I started a sanders supporter but switched.

(1,464 posts)The only one I picked right in my lifetime was Obama and I am still shocked he won.
This is the most heartbroken I've been though. Knowing that we've lost an opportunity for a president who passionately supports immigration reform and would make it one of his top priorities breaks my heart. I look at the other two candidates and am so incredibly disappointed.

(114 posts)for sticking with your man. I did on another thread!

(6,829 posts)based on your stunning predictions so far...
Recursion
(56,582 posts)So I'll stick by that support, personally...
In fairness, about Edwards I even actually said "He has all of Clinton's strengths, without the womanizing!" On that, I'll cop to an "oops" moment.

(6,829 posts)No excuses.
MOM supporters have my deepest respect and sympathy. My comment was snarky and mean.

(56,582 posts)Primaries are an emotional time. Democrats Abroad vote on March 1st, and although voting there would disqualify me from voting absentee in DC, I'll probably do it since March 1 looks like a rough day for Sanders and I figure he could use some help.

(6,829 posts)Thanks for being so gracious

(7,300 posts)It's easy to be snarky but much harder to admit being wrong about it. Been there done that! Good on you for owning your words/actions!

(56,582 posts)Let it all be forgotten in the flood of Republican tears we cause this November.

(14,947 posts)He made me so sad, I thought he was the real deal.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)But, yeah, that was incredibly disappointing. I think his "two Americas" framing would have been unbelievably powerful, and still could be.

(14,947 posts)Really hoping Iowa has perked up the ears of people who haven't been listening to the news. It is amazing to me that more people don't pay closer attention to politics and what is happening in the world around him. I admit to being a junkie.
Edwards was a philanderer, not a womanizer.
He was also my favorite candidate. Phone-banked for him to the bitter end. As noted elsewhere in this thread, his Two Americas platform was beautiful. Strangely (or not), the most vicious opposition I ever got was from Hillary supporters. Irony, I guess.

(81,871 posts)This is who the guy supports. And there are some good choices there
Recursion
(56,582 posts)Arazi and I reached a detente on this, so no more need be said.

Recursion
(56,582 posts)I don't know that I've ever met someone who voted for him!
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)face LaRouche presented on TV and would have been shocked if they'd seen the real, extremist one he kept for his true believers.. I thought he sounded interesting on some interview show -- until i was interested enough to go read, and then whoa! There are probably a number of ex- brief LaRouchies here. He was a very clever left-wing nut-creep. The Democratic Party refused to let him run on our ticket.

(7,960 posts)Bill Bradley too.
Gary Hart was the worst because of the way he lost. Obama was the only winner I voted for in the primaries but that was because my first choice had dropped out.
I have a bunch of campaign buttons which I hope to some day mount and frame and call it my wall of losers.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)He was actually my first choice that year before it became absolutely clear that it was not realistic. What's he up to now, anyways? We need another bearded President!

Recursion
(56,582 posts)I was 16 for Tsongas, so that "support" was entirely moral.

(56,582 posts)Red white and blue baby room. Still gives me nightmares.
I volunteered for the party in '92 but couldn't vote; I supported Tsongas before he dropped out.

(9,894 posts)I was hoping to vote for O'Malley in the PA primary, but figured he probably wouldn't get that far. I always wonder at who gets traction and who doesn't. I mean, why Sanders (who I have nothing against) but not O'Malley?
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)but I have been hearing of (and liking) Bernie for years and years. I never heard of O'Malley until this election cycle so he wasn't on my radar at all. But I like what I hear from him. He'd be my second choice.
