Sanders' campaign stands by book blurb knocking Obama
Spokesman says it's 'absolutely true'
UPDATED 3:17 AM EST Jan 31, 2016
(CNN) Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign on Saturday stood by a book endorsement the Vermont senator wrote that suggested President Barack Obama had let progressives down, claiming that what the senator wrote is "absolutely true."
Sanders penned the book endorsement for "Buyer's Remorse: How Obama let Progressives Down" by Bill Press. "Bill Press makes the case ... Read this book," Sanders writes in a blurb featured atop the book's front cover.
"Bill Press makes the case why, long after taking the oath of office, the next president of the United States must keep rallying the people who elected him or her on behalf of progressive causes. That is the only way real change will happen," read Sanders' full quote.
Press' book, which is out a day after the Iowa caucuses on February 2, is about "the many ways President Obama has failed to live up to either his promises or his progressive potential," according to promotional materials..................

During a long and in-depth interview with the Atlantics Jeffrey Goldberg, former secretary of state and likely future presidential candidate Hillary Clinton distanced herself from President Obamas foreign policy, implying the Islamist extremist group ISIS would not be so powerful had the president listened to her advice and thrown American power more forcefully behind moderate Syrian rebel forces.
The failure to help build up a credible fighting force of the people who were the originators of the protests against Assad there were Islamists, there were secularists, there was everything in the middle the failure to do that left a big vacuum, which the jihadists have now filled, Clinton said.

I watched that interview. Bernie praised Obama for all that he has accomplished. But he did say that he has had disagreements with the President.
OMG - Bernie does not walk in lock step with the President and has a mind of his own. Waaaaaaa!!!!
C'mon Hillaryites - we are Democrats. We don't fall for this kinda crap.

(39,451 posts)which was a huge mistake because it was an excellent tool for organizing progressives, which I was involved in.
There was a lot of disappointment after that.... To those of us that volunteered with OFA it was mindboggling.
Bernie will not do that is what he is saying.

(24,853 posts)My headline carries just as much weight as yours does, for if you had taken the time to actually UNDERSTAND what you were reading... you'd know the quote on Bill Press' book DOESN'T MENTION BARACK OBAMA AT ALL.

(4,960 posts)David Plouffe is tweeting it like a good soldier and the Clintonites are pushing it like it means something.
The quote from Sanders is perfectly respectful and truthful. Are we not allowed to ask our leaders to be better? Sanders has said over and over that he appreciates what Pres Obama has done. Is it wrong to want the next President to push progressives ideas more strongly if possible?
Bill Press also wrote an excellent book called "The Obama Hate Machine - all about the horrible lies and distortions used by the right-wing media and ignored by the corporate mainstream media against President Obama. I guess Plouffe didn't have a problem with Bill when he wrote that one.
I wonder how many people have actually read the book they are all complaining about. It's what many of us here have spoken about - lots of good things in the Obama years. But still an increasing of income equality, a stagnation of workers wages, the TPP, etc. Obama campaigned on lots of stuff that many of us voted for him for. I myself have my disappointments. Not that I would have preferred Clinton - no way. But seriously, this book is not a slam job against Obama. It's an analysis of what was done - and what wasn't.

(6,282 posts)There is nothing wrong with the quote Senator Sanders gave. It is a commentary on political strategy, not ideology or commitment to democratic principles.
But, please do carry on. I'm sure this accusation will not stick.
