Enough About Hillary Clinton’s Damn Emails!

815 words into the Associated Press’s recent 949 word piece on Hillary Clinton’s email scandal, one will find a passage that should appear at the very beginning:

The FBI also is looking into Clinton’s email setup, but has said nothing about the nature of its probe. Independent experts says it’s unlikely Clinton will be charged with wrongdoing, based on details that have surfaced so far and the lack of indications that she intended to break laws.

Since the start of the 2016 election cycle, I have been highly conflicted about Clinton’s presidential campaign. Of the three candidates seeking the Democratic nomination, she is easily the most conservative, and there is plenty of evidence that she has used her establishment connections to rig the contest in her favor before a single ballot has been cast. Although her extensive experience makes her abundantly well-qualified for the presidency and I would support her over any of the Republican alternatives, she certainly isn’t my first choice.

At the same time, as Bernie Sanders once put it, I am sick and tired of hearing about her damn emails. The latest revelations change none of that.

If theres substance.

People Feel theres substance and generally speaking don't trust her. For many other substantive reasons.

Her candidacy is already an endless stream of controversy. Changing positions on TPP, endless silly attacks in her opponent and his supporters, endless talk of her husbands sexual past, endless talk of benghazi, etc etc.

It's a circus.

Which is why she can barely get anyone to show up in the flesh at her rallies.

So. The emails are just more of the same. And they represent what a Clinton presidency would be like. Endless scandals and petty political attacks.

And this issue certainly matters to Republicans, who are going to beat her over the head with it, just like they'd beat Bernie over the head with the "Socialist" tag if he were the nominee.

On edit, this issue won't go away until the DOJ announces that the investigation is finished and no charges are forthcoming.

... that the Republicans will use their smear machine to keep this out in front, especially in the general election, but I do find it sadly ironic that many of Bernie Sanders supporters are doing exactly the same thing during the primaries. Every once in awhile one of his supporters will admit that there is really no there, there, but for every one of those, you can find 10 threads spinning this against Clinton in the exact same manner as the Republicans. They don't have to prove anything, as long as they keep it in front, and spin it in a negative light. They have proven time and again they will use any means to accomplish their goal, up to and including using the same tactics of those people who will do whatever it takes to destroy Bernie Sanders should he end up the nominee. Clinton emails? Bernie ain't seen nothin' yet.

8. "Bernie ain't seen nothin' yet" ... I completely agree with this.

People who think that Bernie is invulnerable are sadly mistaken. In the real world (outside the safety of this fortress) there are no "alert buttons" that his followers can use to shut-down the well-funded GOP attack machine. He's been "coasting" along because the RW attacks have been focused on Hillary ... and for good reason, they WANT to go up against Bernie. He has some striking weaknesses that the GOP will gleefully use to smear him. Fair or not, relevant or not, they'll be able to inflict damage that will guarantee that Bernie wouldn't win the GE.

On the other hand, Hillary has withstood these types of attacks for years ... many, many years! She knows how to deal with them, she knows how to respond (or not). Everyone has heard the baseless attacks so often that we (and she) are practically immune to them. Nobody cares anymore! Even something "new" that comes down the pike ends up gaining no traction. We've heard it all before, and everyone instinctively dismisses the attacks as just being more-of-the-same.

Hillary is strong! Hillary is a winner!

THANK GOD SHE WILL BE THE NOMINEE!! We deserve the BEST, and Hillary is the one! She's light years ahead of ALL the competitors.

10. Here's what I think....

.... a lot of people are overlooking. Your average Democratic voter is not, and will not focus on all the issues places like Democratic Underground does. They will not delve that deeply into all the issues, but will instead focus on one thing that has driven their votes throughout time. Are we better off as a country with a democratic government or a republican government? They know the answer to this question because, unlike their republican counterparts, they are not swept up in the fear mongering, the religion of hate, and other wedge issues, but, on the other hand, they are like the republican counterparts in that the word "socialist" goes against their core beliefs in "real" American values. Fair or not, it's just the way it is, and Republicans will use this in any way they can to crush the enthusiasm for a socialist president. As noble as it may be, the American people, left and right, are not ready to embrace this concept.

11. We agree again! I recently saw a post where someone observed ...

... that if Bernie were (miraculously) nominated, he'd be spending 90% of his time trying to explain what a "Democratic-Socialist" is, and by virtue of that, he's lost the election BEFORE it even gets going.

As you noted, most voters don't delve deeply into issues ... if it's too much to fit on a bumper-sticker (or a Facebook meme) then it's going to be ignored or misunderstood.

The GOP would EASILY be able to fit their attacks on a bumper-sticker or in meme-format. Sanders wouldn't have such an easy time defending himself. --- That's a WIN for the GOP.

It's a liability that would cost him the election.

BUT, THANK GOD WE WON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THAT!!

7. It's not even about whether there's an indictment. It's about judgment and national security.

What she did was Just Dumb and based on Self-Interest at the risk of national security.

Is that the kind of judgment that we want the commander in chief to have?

This is going to dog her presidency endlessly to the point of:
1) distracting her from the job of leading and
2) eroding her power with congress and
3) making all of us positively nauseous with constant right wing vitriol about it

... but this self-inflicted wound will not just go away. It will haunt Hillary past the days when she finally disappears from the national stage. Poutrage that it won't be gone because she waved the royal hand and told it to, won't change that.

If you truly don't want to hear any more about "Hillary's emails," I suggest you find a way for her to withdraw from the race and disappear from public view. That's the ONLY way it will happen.
