2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow the Republicans Will Attack Hillary Clinton if She Is the Nominee
Republicans are predictable. If Hillary is the Democratic nominee, expect attacks from Republicans in these areas:
1. Bill Clinton - This will be one of their primary focuses. Never mind that Bill Clinton is not running. They will replay the entire series of "scandals" from Whitewater to Monica, trying to tie Hillary to all of them. Expect everything you have ever heard to be repeated.
2. Liar - Every mistake or misstatement Clinton has ever made will be featured prominently in advertising. Never mind all of the mistakes made by their own candidate. Those don't matter if you're a Republican.
3. Benghazi - Despite Hillary's outstanding defense of herself in hearings, this will be a featured point of attack by Republicans. The very word will appear constantly, ignoring the facts. That is how Republicans operate.
4. Emailghazi - Investigations by FBI. Indictment is certain. Never mind that this has been in progress for a very long time, and will not result in any action against Clinton. There's no there there, but Republicans don't care. They're like honey badger that way.
5. Bill Clinton - Even more of the same as the campaign progresses.
There are many others. Please feel free to list them in this thread.

6. Guns - During debates she's painted a clear picture of her gun positions as stronger than Sanders and definitely stronger than the Republicans
7. Trust - This ranges from the email thing to all sorts of other issues she's changed positions on.

(22,651 posts)If he wins, republicans have 25 years of Sanders elected history & decades of personal life, to find something to use against him.
If he doesn't win the D primary- next time he runs for office, I predict republicans will try to win his seat.

(42,862 posts)... and have decided that it doesn't matter. Any future attacks will likely be recycled versions of old attacks (that nobody cares about any more) or will be the same type of over-hyped hyperbolic and hypocritical attack that people will ALSO dismiss as being "just more of the same" from the usual group of partisan hacks.
Bernie is clearly more vulnerable to the GOP attack-machine. And he's not likely to be as seasoned and toughened by the experience of being their target.

(94,792 posts)...Clinton needs to pull together the Democratic coalition (and despite all the chest-thumping, Sanders voters will support her) and reach for a chare of moderate independents and Republicans (who are NOT all tea-party bible-thumpers). THEY won't be obsessing about Bill Clinton (remember -- he won two elections and ended his term immensely popular?) or about Benghazi, but they WILL be unhappy about tax increases.

(146,338 posts)I have posted a pair of thread on how the Republicans will attack the Democratic nominee. Those topics seem to me to be worth opening discussions. Clearly, you appear to disagree. Those two OPs will be the only ones I start this morning. (ETA: I forgot a third OP from this morning.) You're welcome to ignore them if you find them to lack value to you.
I will read however many OPs you create today, though. I suspect they will outnumber mine by a significant factor. I'll reply in the ones I think are worth a reply, too.
As for how well informed people are, that is not one of the criteria I have for creating OPs. I suppose that some already have thought about what I posted and that others have not. The point is to open a discussion.
Thank you for participating in this one.

(146,338 posts)avenue of attack, I think, from Republicans. They haven't really used it so far, anyhow. It has been brought up more within the Democratic campaigns, really.

(12,685 posts)1. The Clintons have SO much to work with.
2. Depends on who the Republican nominee is. Heads might truly explode here with the arguments that can be made.
3. All those Democrats who don't know the facts are going to become mighty disillusioned.
Just my 2 cents.

If Trump is the nominee, he will attack every penny she or the the Foundation bearing her last name ever made. That is a lot of pennies. Also every change in position and every vote. She has far to much baggage to stand up to that.
Plus a clear majority of Americans believe she is untrustworthy. That means that even when they lie about her and she tells the truth, the odds are they won't believe her.
Terrible candidate.

Bernie, Hillary, it doesn't matter when it comes to non-stop attacks.
