Bernie Sanders Fighting for Women's Rights Puts his Critics on the Ropes

Directly quoted from Senator Sanders website:
https://berniesanders.com/issues/fighting-for-womens-rights/

We are not going back to the days when women had to risk their lives to end an unwanted pregnancy. The decision about abortion must remain a decision for the woman and her doctor to make, not the government.

We are not going to allow the extreme right-wing to defund Planned Parenthood, we are going to expand it. Planned Parenthood provides vital healthcare services for millions of women, who rely on its clinics every year for affordable, quality health care services including cancer prevention, STI and HIV testing and general primary health care services. The current attempt to malign Planned Parenthood is part of a long-term smear campaign by people who want to deny women in this country the right to control their own bodies.

We are not going back to the days when women did not have full access to birth control. Incredibly, almost all of the Republicans in the Senate are in favor of giving any employer who provides health insurance, or any insurance company, the ability to deny coverage for contraception or any other kind of procedure if the employer had a “moral” objection to it. That is unacceptable.

We will not go back to the days when survivors of domestic violence had no access to services or recourse against their abusers, because domestic violence was swept under the rug, as a shameful, private issue. Worse yet, it was not so long ago that spousal abuse was legal in many states. We must expand services provided through the Violence Against Women Act and the Family Violence Prevention and Services Act, and fight any attempts to undermine these laws.

continually with nitty picky trivia...ask the damn organization. I'm proud of both of those scores. How come he's getting hounded? No need to guess much.

And PP? Hillary is employing her daughter. How convenient.

5. I know, it is very demoralizing

But that is why it is great to be a member of DU and air all of our disappointments and criticisms.

I think Bernie will overcome these, as you say, nitty picky trivia, and prevail in the primaries.

Thank you for posting on my thread.

4. here is another issue he favors -- equal Social Security credits for caregivers
Tue Jan 26, 2016, 06:24 PM
Jan 2016

This is a HUGE issue for many older women today, who live on low incomes because their years of WORK caring for family members was not considered "work" for purposes of Social Security credits.

Let's spread this issue far and wide. It's a feminist issue, it's an equal pay issue, and it's also an issue affecting stay at home dads.

Please tell the campaign to elevate this concern.

12. Yes, he is and he is our kind of president

I am really starting to look at him as the man he will lead this Country when President Obama's second term ends. I know there are many trying to block his win, but there are many, many more propelling him to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

As he says, we must all stand together, and in that way make change.

Thank you for posting on my thread.

There is NOTHING good about the Hyde Amendment.
It has undercut Roe v Wade, which is what it was designed for.

waiting.....

15. Bernie Sanders Calls for Repeal of the Hyde Amendment
Tue Jan 26, 2016, 11:18 PM
Jan 2016
The Hyde Amendment is an obscure budget rider that bans any federal funding from covering abortion services, which means low-income women on Medicaid can’t use their plans to cover an abortion. It has also helped limit access for government employees, military personnel, those in the Peace Corps, and others. It’s become a routine piece of policy, renewed in every federal spending bill since 1976, and frequently becomes a political football, as when President Obama signed an executive order including restrictions along the lines of Hyde in the Affordable Care Act as a way to win support for the bill’s passage.

But now both frontrunners for the Democratic presidential nomination have come out against it, calling for it to be repealed. Hillary Clinton has repeatedly called for a reversal of Hyde, and now Bernie Sanders has followed suit.

On Friday, Sanders said in a statement, “Women must have full control over their reproductive health in order to have full control over their lives. We must rescind the Hyde Amendment and resist attempts by states to erect roadblocks to abortion.” Sanders has voted against the Hyde Amendment while serving in both the House and Senate, but his statement made his intentions clear to repeal it once and for all if elected.
