Officials from Obama's Cabinet lining up behind Clinton

WASHINGTON -- Hillary Clinton hasn't just been wrapping herself in President Barack Obama's legacy lately. She's been wrapping herself in his Cabinet.

With Obama's endorsement out of reach for now, Clinton's presidential campaign has racked up support from his administration's top officials. It's part of the effort to win over loyalists in the Obama coalition as Clinton -- secretary of state in his first term -- fights for every edge.

Obama's housing chief, Julian Castro, campaigned for Clinton this weekend in Nevada and Iowa. Clinton recently accepted the endorsement of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and appeared in South Carolina with former Attorney General Eric Holder. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, a former Iowa governor, and Labor Secretary Tom Perez also are among the current and former officials who have publicly declared their support.

The high-level endorsements come as Clinton tries to undercut her main rival, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, by casting him as fair-weather friend to her former boss. She has called out Sanders for suggesting in 2011 that Obama should face a second-term primary challenge, and for criticizing Obama for taking donations from Wall Street.

2. Not particularly surprising.

Hillary is the "carry on Obama's legacy" candidate. That's one of her strongest points, really. Obama is very popular with voting Democrats. He all but gave her his endorsement yesterday, but stopped short of formally endorsing her. It would be unseemly for a President to endorse a candidate officially during primary season.

6. Hmmm.. Could it be Obama trying to pacify Clinton supporters to get behind Biden in the future?

I wondered the same thing about his interview. He doesn't make Bernie supporters happy but with Warren on the ticket they hope to pacify them.

Could be he just supports Clinton...

11. It's a simple calculus, they endorse Sanders and Clinton gets the nod they are dog meat in DC

Endorsing Clinton is the better bet, they might still have a future in DC if Sanders or the Republican wins in that case.

....of the US Government understand that Clinton has the executive experience and talent to step right in and continue Obama's excellent record as President.

Interesting summary of current and former Cabinet member endorsements:

Clinton has the endorsements of 4 current members and 24 former members.
Sanders has the endorsement of one former member (who was essentially "fired" by Hillary Clinton's husband)

15. Consider me shocked, as well. Just more 1%ers. Yawn. Just more rich folk Bernie's folk

are finding a voice to respond to. I expect the entire federal bureaucracy to endorse Clinton, but then, no one knows their names...so probably would mean even less than the rich ones. Oh, well. Politics.

In fact, every time one of these "stunning endorsements" is announced...I'm going to bet it's like Hillary's attacks on health care and guns, et al ... Bernie will get more donations and more supporters. Now, seems they ARE listening and responding with their little $30 pittances...and their little vote.

So I say, please proceed, y'all
