Right Wing Commentators Are Sounding Very Desperate

I have said it before but if you need to write a barrage of articles about how despite all of the evidence, your candidate is still winning, you arent wining. The winning side doesnt have to convince people they are winning. Here is some evidence of the right wing desperation

That, right there, is your conservative brand. Never, ever, let reality get in the way of your dogma.

The "undecided voter" shit always makes me laugh. Many of these folks will say, fuck it, let's keep Obama in office or will just stay home.

These guys all know they have to maintain some sense of a race or else R turnout will drop which kills them in the House and Senate races.

Of course some will end up voting for someone but when we get this late into a campaign the people that are still undecided tend to just stay home. Each week we get closer to the election, the number of undecided voters left up for grabs drops off dramatically. This would mean Romney would have to start stealing voters from Obama's column at a staggering rate in order to catch up. I think whatever Romney does for the next few weeks will be too little too late

I have seen it a few times. Right now they have Romney up by 8 points. No one at the site seems to be able to explain why but my god, he is winning in a landslide! For some reason! I have never seen anti-intellectual statistics before but I think this is it.

It is really beyond desperate. How do you explain that your world view is in an extreme minority and that despite all of your anger and hatred of Obama, he is still going to win? The polls are all lies, of course!

If the people that actually believe this nonsense sleep better for the next few weeks because they believe they are headed for a landslide victory, so be it. They are going to have a very rough 4 years with that evil Obama in the white house, might as well let them enjoy the next month.

It seems what they've done is to take (what appears to be) a thoroughly debunked premise by Rasmussen w/ regard to voter identification. Rasmussen has Republican Identification increasing, while just about every other pollster shows a decrease. Because the other pollsters are using what appears to be an accurate depiction of voter identification (i.e., decreasing Republican identification), places like unskewedpolls.com are screaming about Democratic voters being "oversampled" in the polls. They're claiming that Romney is really up be 4-8 points.

On an unrelated note, Scarlett Johansson wants me to ask her out. Sure....

12. I read the comments from a Yahoo story about the latest polls
Tue Sep 25, 2012, 11:45 PM
Sep 2012

The story talked about how the Romney campaign claims their internals show a tight race. Whatever. The comments though, which are always republicans since only republicans would still be using yahoo, were all talking about how polls these days are "skewed" and they need to be "unskewed". These morons suddenly think they are experts in statistics. Unskewed isn't even a word.....deep breaths....deep breaths....

Anyway, what is funny or sad or both is that they were all claiming that you need to poll an equal number of republicans and democrats for a poll to be "unskewed". The concept of weighting for demographics seems to escape them. They seem to actually think that pollsters are polling a slightly greater number of dems than republicans in some kind of plot to help Obama look like he has more support than he actually does. Of course not being educated means they don't understand the concept of a representative sample and perhaps they can't accept that there are more democrats out there than republicans.

I am certainly not a statistician, although i did take a few stats courses in college, and the explanation of the methodology from unskewed.com makes absolutely no sense. He isn't some brilliant radical or truth teller. He is literally some guy with a website that has no understanding of math. It is just the rambling nonsense of a highly delusion individual that can't accept that the black man is going to be president for four more years. It is pathetic and frustrating, although not surprising, that so many republicans have turned to this random dumb ass for their guidance. All of this behavior we are seeing out of the right is not the result of people that think they are winning. It is a transient denial that is spreading across the GOP.

The only question now is, why do I even care enough to write about it?

Thus the undercounting of Republicans that "unskewedpolls" depends on doesn't exist and may actually be undercounting Democratic voters:

The level of paranoia in the republican party these days is reaching new levels. Everything that doesn't fit neatly into their world view is a massive lie. Obama is winning? That must be a massive lie. There are more democrats than republicans? Another liberal media plot! As their party has shrunk, the people that are left are more extreme and isolated. 8 or 10 years ago, I could go onto a message board and debate with a republican and it was reasonably rational. There wasn't talk of mass conspiracies in the media and communists in the democratic party. If their candidates were behind it was "they will pull ahead after the debates" instead of "we are ahead, the polls are all lies!"

I do think the republican party is on the verge of imploding and a new, more moderate party is going to take their place. They have become fanatical and weird. A true reinvention of their party is probably going to happen in the near future. Their current course is unsustainable.
