2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWhether you agree with them or not, the Clintons are very popular with black voters, so if you want
black voters to switch their support from Hillary Clinton to your candidate, constantly trashing her at every opportunity, calling her ugly and childish names (such as "Her Royal Highness," "Shillery," "neocon," "corporatist," and worse), and telling them that you just can't understand how they could possibly support her over Sanders (translation: "You're ignorant or naive" , is not an effective outreach tool. In fact, it is likely to have - and seems to be having - just the opposite effect, which explains why Sanders is not getting much traction in the black community.
In other words, black folks aren't blind or stupid. When you go after Hillary Clinton with such gleeful hatred, we ... can... seeeee... you - and it's not a pretty sight.

(3,900 posts)You think that such a comment gets you ANYWHERE with black voters? Do you think that it will in any way encourage black voters who like Hillary Clinton and are leaning toward her in the primaries to switch to Bernie Sanders? Why would anyone who likes Hillary Clinton want to be associated with a campaign supported by people with attitudes like yours?
cali
(114,904 posts)Don't bring up facts about her past.
Nonsense. And minority voters are like all other voters in that they make their own decisions. I don't view minority voters as people so stupid that they'll decide who to vote for based on whether people are critical of Hillary.

(47,803 posts)You have no fucking clue how some people think and feel.
How many people were thrilled when Bill Clinton was elected, but became frustrated and angry as he sold out workers, supported GOP deregulation and privatization and generally supported Big Business over the people.
You think it was FUN to feel that way?
You think it a "gleeful" experience to not be able to support a front-runner because you don't trust her.
Yeah it's real fun to not be able to wholehertedly embrace the agenda of the party and elite leadership that supposedly is the liberal alternative to the GOP.

"We don't need anyone to tell us sh#t. Our candidate is infallible (did you know he marched with Dr. King?). We are always right. Our tactics are unassailable. And if you don't see it that way, you're stupid and we don't need you. HERE COME THE CONCERN TROLLS . . ."

You guessed it: Vermont.
In fact, 98 percent of pledged Democratic delegates will come from states with lower shares of liberal whites than Iowa and New Hampshire. Just 447 of 4,051 pledged Democratic delegates - 11 percent - are tied to results in states or districts with higher shares of college-educated whites than New Hampshire. Moreover, just 13 percent of pledged Democratic delegates will be awarded in caucus states like Iowa, which as 2008 proved, tend to bring out more liberal participants than primaries.

(23,664 posts)Like the time Bill Clinton said to Ted Kennedy, referring to then Senator Obama, "A few years ago he would have been carrying our bags".
Or when Hillary said during the 2008 primary season that her appeal was primarily to "hard working Americans, white Americans".
Yeah, sure, I can see why black voters would be attracted to a candidate who said stuff like that.
You convinced me.

(23,664 posts)Listen, I'm not exactly thrilled with the job President Obama has done, although I consider him a fine man and an excellent human being.
Consequently, I was infuriated by the shitty way the Clintons treated him in 2008, and that was just the final straw. I didn't like them before that, and I despised them afterward.
You need to get that 2x4 off your shoulder. And don't expect anything from any politician, you'll be much less disappointed.

(27,820 posts)... obligated to explain her appeal to you, or anyone else?
Whether "white folks" - dense or otherwise - understand why HRC appeals to AA voters is of no consequence, nor is the notion of whether you "see it" or not.
The fact is that the vast majority of AA voters support HRC over BS - and whether you accept that or not has no impact on anything, nor are you owed any explanation whatsoever.
It's a question better posed to Bernie. Ask HIM why he cannot make any inroads with AAs and minorities - maybe he can get Cornell West or Killer Mike to explain it to you.

Empowerer
(3,900 posts)"Pointing out Hillary's flaws" won't necessarily make people vote for her, but it won't encourage anyone who is already supporting her to switch to Sanders at this point. Most black voters are fully aware of her flaws, just as you are, so constantly telling them about her flaws - real and imagined - gets you nowhere. It seems more geared toward venting your hate of Hillary than toward actually encouraging anyone to vote for your candidate.
