George and Mitt Romney--some common ideas seen in George Romney's 1968 Presidential Announcement
George Romney talks about how Americans are becoming irresponsible, how the federal government and welfare are bad, how we need leadership to elevate religion and morality, how people don't like to work enough, the importance of trusting the individual more than government, and other points including some, like ending the Vietnam War, that are quite brave and admirable. He says that we MUST have a Republican President to restore truth to government, etc. (HAHA--we got Nixon)
My favorite quote: "We must end the spirit of anything goes." And, of course, his son Mitt was demonstrating responsibility and love of hard work by spending time as a missionary in France.
I've listened to this video several times, and it does not sound to me like George Romney believed in the separation of church and state.
Here's another video, one of Lenore Romney in the early 1960's. There's something I can't figure out--she says that they have only owned their own home for four years but she also says they used money from the sale of their house to buy stock in American Motors, which would have been much earlier than four years before the interview. Am I missing something?
