Santorum: Obama Has Put America On ‘The Path’ Of Executing Religious People By Decapitation

Santorum: Obama Has Put America On ‘The Path’ Of Executing Religious People By Decapitation

By Igor Volsky posted from ThinkProgress LGBT on Feb 9, 2012 at 9:19 am

Rick Santorum continued to rail against President Obama’s so-called war against religion during a town hall in Plano, Texas Wednesday night. The former Pennsylvania senator — who has spent the last several days criticizing the government’s requirement that insurers provide contraception coverage and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal’s decision striking down Proposition 8 — accused the administration of “crushing” religion and setting the United States on the path towards executing religious people by decapitation:

SANTORUM: They are taking faith and crushing it. Why? Why? When you marginalize faith in America, when you remove the pillar of God-given rights, then what’s left is the French Revolution. What’s left is the government that gives you right, what’s left are no unalienable rights, what’s left is a government that will tell you who you are, what you’ll do and when you’ll do it. What’s left in France became the guillotine. Ladies and gentlemen, we’re a long way from that, but if we do and follow the path of President Obama and his overt hostility to faith in America, then we are headed down that road.

So, Rick is saying that he identifies with the aristocracy? He would like to parade around in silk pantaloons and a powdered wig? Is that it?

becomes President. His government will be telling us when we can and cannot have sexual intercourse, who can have it and how it will be done. Make no mistake about it, the Catholic Church's position has been and still is that sexual intercourse must take place within a marriage between a man and a woman and it must solely be for the purpose of procreation. The Catholic Bishops are clever enough not to come right out and say this but Santorum will do their work for them. The Catholic Bishops know that they have no credibility whatsoever in this matter and that they have lost almost all moral sway as a result of their protection of pedophile priests. Santorum is a convenient tool for them.

I just wish that this snot-nosed, overgrown kid would get out of my life and get a real job.

Actually Santorum is NOT the one we should be worried about. It is the religiously insane ones who support him and will vote for him. And he is inciting a dangerous and incendiary situation. I would view his histrionics as a threat to Obama.

We are dealing with a GOP that is as dangerous as a rabid pit bull. They are busy spewing out vile and hatred more and more all the time. They are more and more bug eyed crazy with venomous hatred. And they make no bones about their intentions. The demand civility as they push violence to others that done agree with them by code.

The eliminationist rhetoric is becoming a din. The divide is evolving into sectarianism like we see in Ireland. I have been saying for a long time that we are in a state of civil war and not an election.

We have billionaire and millionaire enablers like the Kochs who stir the pot for their gain. Just watch Scorcese's "Gangs Of New York". It is no different today .

Consider for a moment what Rick is angling for: greater religious influence on public life.

Yet the tatters of our First Amendment are still strong enough to ensure that if Rick succeeds, all religions will gain greater influence on public life.

France doesn't behead people anymore. But I can think of a several nations that leverage their religion to advocate "smiting the infidels above their necks..." Eroding the boundary between church and state--which is exactly what Santorum wants--is the one way that we're going to have ritualized beheadings here in the United States.

So the path to decapitation goes squarely through Rick Santorum's campaign headquarters.

Hypocrisy and extremism among the religious folk I knew led me to question church authority in my youth, examine doctrine and dogma more closely, and eventually stop believing in the Guy in the Sky.

So people like Rick ultimately have done people like me a favor.
