2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumIf Vermont is such a horrible fucking white racist state
Why did President Obama do better there, both in 2008 and 2012, than in any other state but Hawaii?
I feel like I need to shower when I read the Clinton supporters inferring or straight out calling, Bernie a racist because he moved to and lives in Vermont.
Let me clue you folks in: The hippies who moved to Vermont didn't move here because they're racists.

(6,286 posts)... as a statement of fact, which we both know is dishonest in itself. They are iron workers and like I said in the other thread, I worked with these guys for almost 25 years. They are a breed apart, and one of the hardest types of people to read unless you get to know them. That's more plausible than your uninformed speculation.

(6,286 posts)... I need to know. Your answer belies your assertion that you know any ironworkers. The thing is, there are a lot of people in many different walks of life who don't like to be in front of the camera, and show their discomfort in many different ways. I am one of those people. The bottom line is that claiming to know someone's emotions and character by the expression on their face is, as a matter of fact, dishonest, and I don't believe there is anything you can say in defense of it, but a lot of Bernie's supporters will keep slinging shit against the wall hoping something will stick. At this point I expect no less.

to take Clinton's remarks and try to make, of all people, him a racist absolutely disgusted me. It showed how low and to what dirty, slimy levels the Obama campaign would descend in order to force their mediocre candidate down everyone's throats.
If Obama is the nominee, he will get my vote only through the benefit of my voting straight party Democrat. There's a couple of local judges and my state representative who is a self-aggrandizing asshole that I have no use for that will also benefit as will Obama. But that's the way it goes.

Orrex
(63,336 posts)Perhaps you're attempting to mischaracterize the very correct observation that whites represent a larger percentage of Vermont's population than they do in, say, the famously white Utah. As a result of that correct observation, one might further correctly note that previous success among that demographically homogeneous electorate is no reasonable basis for assuming electoral success against the much broader demographic landscape of the nation as a whole.
But if it gets you more clicks and recs, feel free to equate this reality to the apocryphal claim that "Vermont is such a horrible fucking white racist state."
Edited to add: I have been made aware of a bullshit post that does, indeed, call Sanders a racist. That post reflects badly on the poster's intellectually honesty, and I have replied there to say as much.

And that his focus is on the economy rather than directed specifically at A-A issues. that he has't built ties with the A-A community over the years because Vermont is relatively isolated from areas where the A-A population is larger.

(24,411 posts)Because Iowa is overwhelmingly white, Hillary Clinton's campaign has insisted that Iowa is not representative of the nation as a whole.
Well, in 08 Iowa overwhelmingly voted for Obama in the caucuses. We were the first state to do so. We listened to his speeches, hear his message--and listened to the other candidates too--and Obama was the clear winner of the Iowa caucuses--with record attendance!
Iowans are not racist.
I am sure after Hillary loses Iowa, we will hear how awful and disgusting our state is, and how inferior all of our people are. And we'll also hear that our caucus system is rigged, unfair and whatever else Hillary decides to impart on her way out the door.
She did this in 08. It's coming again in ten days.
