Hillary is not presenting any new ideas, just keep the status quo of the 3rd term... Bernie wants to build on what Obama started and take the next step, Bernie knows it will take changing Congress to make the nessary changes but he is sharing a goal of were we can go. Bernie is also asking us to not just vote for him he is asking us to get involved and become the change and helping make it happen while I feel that Hillary just wants us to trust her and give her the power, Bernie wants the people to have the power.

(11,588 posts)She has the support of the overwhelming majority of Democrats in Congress to help her continue the progress we have started, and she has a good working relationship with many key foreign leaders and dignitaries, so she will not have to struggle to earn their trust and respect. Her experience, and her diplomatic skills are heralded.

" all her life for progressive causes" In Kindergarten? When she was a Young Republican?
"understands how to actually make progress" She lost the 2008 primary....and then there's her health care plan she did for Bill.
When you look at the facts, you see the ridiculous hyperbole from goo-goo eyed fans.

However, i will leave you with some interesting assessments from today's wapo concerning Hillary's ability to govern vs sander's .
Sanderss all-purpose argument is to call for a political revolution that will vanquish the dark interests standing between the nation and his vision. His campaign is not about governing in the real world of trade-offs and constraints. Which is to say, it is not about governing at all. It is increasingly worrying that large numbers of Democrats appear to believe otherwise.
Bernie Sanderss angry, unrealistic call for revolution http://wapo.st/1SrBsg5
On issue after issue, Clinton proposes incremental solutions that take into account our political system as it is: sharply divided along ideological lines and warped by gerrymandering and virtually unfettered campaign contributions. Sanders proposes dramatic solutions that will only be possible when power is wrested from big money interests that refuse to do what the American people want them to.
Will Democrats choose evolution or revolution? http://wapo.st/1P0LceT

(30,481 posts)College Compact: Costs Wont Be a Barrier
Lifting incomes for everyday Americans is the defining economic challenge of our time. And to raise wages, there is no better investment we can make than in education. College graduates earn $570,000 more on average in their careers than high school graduates. Graduates of community college, career training, certificate programs, and coding boot camps also earn more.

The Human Rights Campaign said it chose Clinton because she has presented the "most robust and ambitious LGBT plan any candidate for president has ever laid out."

Its not enough to condemn campus sexual assault. We need to end it.
I want to send a message to every survivor of sexual assault: Dont let anyone silence your voice. You have the right to be heard. You have the right to be believed, and were with you. Hillary, September 14, 2015
An estimated one in five women report being sexually assaulted while in college. Hillary will fight to bring an end to sexual assault on Americas campusesbecause every student deserves a safe environment where they can learn and thrive, not live in fear.
Thanks to the efforts of advocates and survivors, we are seeing the beginnings of good work around the country. President Obamas administration has worked hard to shine a light on campus sexual assault.

Our criminal justice system is out of balance.
I will never stop working on issues of equality and opportunity, race, and justice. That is a promise. Ive done it my entire adult life. I will always be in your corner.
Hillary, JULY 31, 2015
Hillary believes our criminal justice system is out of balance. In her first major speech of the campaign, she said we have to come to terms with some hard truths about race and justice in America and called for an end to the era of mass incarceration.

Affordable health care is a basic human right.
In 1979, Hillary chaired the Arkansas Rural Health Advisory Committee, which focused on expanding health care access to isolated rural areas of the state.
As first lady, she refused to give up when Congress defeated health care reform. Instead, she worked with Republicans and Democrats to help create the Childrens Health Insurance Program, which now provides health coverage to more than 8 million children. Senator Ted Kennedy said that if not for Hillary, the Childrens Health Insurance Program wouldnt be in existence today.
As senator, she introduced legislation to reduce the cost of health insurance expenses.
Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, Hillary pushed the Bush administration for $20 billion for recovery and to address health care needs of first responders who suffered lasting health effects from their time at Ground Zero.

We must preserve, protect, and strengthen these lifelines.
Now, I will also defend Social Security and Medicare from the efforts of the Republicans to privatize both of them. When I was in the Senate, George Bush came up with a privatization plan. Some of you might remember that. It would have been a disaster. And we defeated it. As your president, I will defend it. I will not let anybody think that they can privatize it. But we're going to have to make sure that we shore it up so that it is there not just for those who are currently recipients but for generations to come.
Hillary Clinton, OCTOBER 28, 2015
Throughout her career, Hillary has spoken out for seniors and stood up for Medicare and Social Security, and she is committed to preserving, protecting and strengthening these lifelines for today's seniors and for future generations. Seniors have paid into these programs for a lifetime, and they've earned those benefits when they retire.

I could go on. Fact is, it seems I am really proud to be part of a movement you define as the "status quo."

(8,702 posts)One that is important to me: college cost. I am drowning in it. I have been attempting to manage it most of my adult life and will until the day I die as I have no way to pay it off in my lifetime. I make "to much" to qualify for most payment programs and to little to actually make the payments they want without resorting to living on public assistance, which I likely wouldn't qualify to get either.
My bigger point I'm making is I wouldn't be in this position if we had done what almost every other nation (all first world nations) on Earth have done: free or near free university system through a progressive tax burden shared by its citizens. What HRC proposes is this:
"Provide grants to states that commit to ensuring that no student should borrow for tuition and improved affordability for other costs at 4-year public colleges and universities."
This is a sham proposal. Majority of states have teapublican governors and legislatures and requiring and getting their buy-in will never happen. If they are willing to refuse Medicare money, they will refuse to do this.
Not to mention that her proposal will have an additional burden on the poor and middle class by this:
"Families will be expected to make a realistic and simplified family contribution. Students will contribute based on wages from ten hours per week of work."
Requiring them to work and go to school, carrying a full load of classes and working 10 hours a week is very difficult for many, if not impossible, while being a successful student at the same time. Sure, people do it but it sure as hell isn't the ideal and no other 1st world nation makes they type of requirement of its students.
To make this short and sweet, I'll make it simple:
Sanders ask me, as middle-class, to pay a little more in taxes, in return we get paid family leave, free college tuition and universal healthcare. In return, I get to stay at home with my sick spouse without using all my leave or going into debt or both.
Send my kids to college without them or me burdened with crushing debt I can't pay.
No longer having thousands of dollars taken out of my check and paid by my employer to have comprehensive and nationwide health coverage. No more overloaded emergency rooms or medical debt bankruptcy (which, as an aside, contributed to riding healthcare cost).
Lastly, what, they (every other 1st world nation) can do it but we can not? Are they more competent? Capable? Committed? Is it because we are a bunch of special flowers? ("We're so special" and "we're so different" . It can work everywhere else, just not here. So special, we currently do it in a way that puts more money in only a few pockets and continues to burden low and middle-class families with a lifetime of debt?

I plan to vote Bernie in primaries, but to say Hillary is in it only for ego is ridiculous. Hillary and Bernie both have proven they'll roll their sleeves up and do the heavy lifting. We've all seen the pics posted by RW haters of her at Senate meetings with her hair pulled back in a pony tail and no makeup. The woman is not afraid to work.

Let me repeat myself. By dint of experience, accomplishments, and temperament Hillary Clinton is eminently qualified to be president and her gender is of no moment, regardless of how much some people want to make it so.

(3,226 posts)About why they want to win and I have heard Hillary's desire to "Breake the last glass celiling" as a reason one should vote for her most of what I hear from Bernie is about what "We" can do to make change happen. (314 posts)I happen to disagree with her on a number of policies, but she has been a dedicated public servant, and I have no doubt she wants to be president because she wants to do what she sees as best for this country. There's plenty to criticize in terms of her policy positions without questioning her character or making unfair statements regarding gender.

(3,366 posts)She's playing a game for the title. She adjusts her tactics, works on her "authenticity," changes her positions, misleads... does whatever she needs to do to win. She does not operate from a base of integrity. She has no core beliefs she won't compromise. She parses everything she says. Her opinions are the result of poll testing. She pretends to care -- uses events/people -- to score points.
