2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHow the media missed Bernie Sanders
BURLINGTON, VERMONT (CNN)Bernie Sanders, the man who is leading in New Hampshire and giving Hillary Clinton a run for her money in Iowa, is coming to terms with a new reality: The media is taking him seriously.
Since launching his campaign last May, Sanders has received vastly less media attention than his chief Democratic opponent, while his chances of becoming the party's nominee were largely dismissed by pundits and commentators despite the fact that, like a certain senator before him, he draws far larger crowds, boasts a remarkably enthusiastic volunteer base, and, though he doesn't have as much money as Clinton, set an all-time record with more than 2.3 million campaign contributions last year.
(snip)
The failure to anticipate Sanders' rise points to a deep flaw with American political media, journalists and campaign strategists told CNN: Despite being proven wrong time and time again, many commentators and reporters continue to cling to an unshakeable faith in the conventional wisdom about the campaign while often ignoring realities on the ground.
(snip)
The dismissal of Sanders, including on occasion by CNN as well as other outlets, is especially palpable for his supporters, who feel like the candidate was written off because of both his temperament and his political beliefs.

There is simply no denying that the less than 1% (Bernie's primary target) own the corporate media conglomerates, thus they have an inherent conflict of interest in presenting the full picture to the American People.
Whether it's Bernie's opposition to Citizens United or campaign finance reform which are almost never mentioned for that could hit spending on political campaign commercials and the corporate media conglomerates in their commercial selling pocketbooks.
Bernie's proposal to tax Wall Street corporations on speculation and going after Big Pharma adversely affect the corporate media's commercial buying clients.
The also holds true for Bernie's proposals to raise taxes against the wealthy for the same reason, this directly affects the corporate media conglomerate owners and their substantially well paid for "star" pundits.
Whether it's consciously done or subconsciously, they don't want the American People to receive Bernie's powerful message.

(41,600 posts)We have the Internet we can take with us 24/7 and get information every second of every day. All worthy news stories (which the corrupt corporate owned MSM has ignored for 8 months) can be spread across the entire WORLD in seconds. We don't need the corrupt corporate owned MSM. They're obsolete.
"The dismissal of Sanders, including on occasion by CNN as well as other outlets"
What? "on occasion?" How about ALWAYS! "On occasion" is missing coverage of a rally or fundraiser or a speech, OCCASIONALLY, but that's not what happened. He had rallies with 33,000, 27,500, 28,000, 13,000, 15,000, 11,000, 8,000 and 5,200 people and not once did any of the CORRUPT CORPORATE OWNED MSM cover any of them! Not once. They didn't even acknowledge they happened! They ignored them completely.
That's no, "on occasion", that's deliberately ignoring a candidate the corrupt PTB don't want elected.
I just love how the corrupt corporate owned MSM is trying to cover their ass now!
Bernie's crowds aren't getting any smaller either! Just last night he had 7,000 people in Birmingham, Alabama! Did the corrupt corporate owned MSM cover it?

(58,445 posts)doing exceptionally well despite the corporate media conglomerates' lack of quality coverage, imagine where he would be if they had covered him honestly from the beginning?
They have truly done a disservice to the American People.

(3,160 posts)Bernie has repeatedly called out the media for their failure to do their job. The media is a large part of the problem. Thank you Bill Clinton for the Telecom Act.

It was short term trade off for the long term, the Internet wasn't strong enough to help Al Gore in 2000, but it brought us President Obama in 2008 and is the only thing giving Bernie a fighting chance.
