Priorities USA Memo: Voters Think Romney Will Hurt Middle Class

Priorities USA Action, the super PAC backing President Obama, released a polling memo Thursday arguing that voters believe Mitt Romney's policies will favor the wealthy and increase the financial burden on the middle class. The memo, from Global Strategy Group's Jefrey Pollock and Nick Gourevitch and Geoff Garin of the Garin-Hart-Yang Research Group, utilizes internal polling conducted this week in Ohio and Iowa.

In both states, President Obama led Romney by wide margins on the question of which candidate would be better for the middle class. In Ohio, led on the quetsion of who will "stand up for the middle class," 53 percent to 32 percent. In Iowa, Obama led on the same question 53 percent to 31 percent. On who would "hold down taxes on the middle class," voters favored Obama 48 percent to 28 percent in Ohio and 48 percent to 31 percent in Iowa.

And in both states, by a 15-point margin, voters said that Romney’s “economic policies would make things worse for people like you.”

Priorities USA Action's ad campaigns have focused on Romney's tax plan with the slogan, "If Mitt Romney wins, the middle class loses."
