New NYTIMES/CBS Poll
[quote]As the first nominating contest approaches, Hillary Clintons commanding lead nationally in the Democratic primary has largely melted away, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.
The tightened race between Mrs. Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont is revealing a sharp generational divide within the Democratic Party, with primary voters under 45 favoring Mr. Sanders by a roughly 2-to-1 ratio.
Over all, 48 percent of Democratic primary voters across the country support Mrs. Clinton, while 41 percent back Mr. Sanders, the poll found. Just a month ago, she led Mr. Sanders by 20 percentage points nationally

Brace yourselves... the attacks are only going to get nastier on Bernie... This is his best performance in a national poll this election cycle.

(1,238 posts)He doesn't need the majority of African Americans, just a significant proportion. There's nothing about Bernie that would prevent him from getting a significant proportion of the African American vote.

(12,041 posts)When I saw the poll yesterday that had him within four percentage points of Clinton I assumed it was an outlier, but seeing another poll within single digits nationally shows that Bernie truly is rapidly gaining on Clinton nationally. I honestly did not think Bernie had any chance of catching up in the national polls unless he could win both Iowa and New Hampshire, but if this momentum holds he could surpass her in national polls before Iowa even votes. This is a very exciting election and I am more optimistic than ever.
