Let some people get rich first.
I have a problem with the segment in the old part of Chinatown Vancouver
Really can they be expected to identify with Chinese who came from canton and established a "Chinatown" decades ago when this has not been the same culture since -50s on the mainland
Yes there are plenty of lion dragon dances etc still going on mainland but a lot of change that the Taiwanese did not go through, including the many phases of revolution to xiaoping to now, and the ones who have been in Canada a generation or two have been, well , in Canada not Taiwan
So to new mainland immigrants is that area really reflecting their roots? Their mainland parents roots ?
Plus China is a big country
If i from Chicago move to the U.K. And live around expats that are all from Texas settled there
am I rejecting my American culture if I want to hang out in an English pub instead of going to the US country and western bar in England to don boots and a big hat and line dance if I would not do that in the US?
I think they want to experience the Canada they came to not a flashback Chinatown
I don't think the women calling it retro was snobbish but to her being recentlyfrom China it probably was especially if they come from cities that look like this now.
