How to make Mochi

What is a mochi you may ask? It is a Japanese rice cake made out of glutinous rice pounded into a paste and molded into a shape. During the mochitsuki event in Japan, otherwise known as the mochi pounding ceremony, mochi is made. In Japan, it is a traditional food mainly eaten during the Japanese New Year, although it is served throughout the year. Mochi can be made savory and sweet. The sweet version is known as Daifuku, which are round glutinous rice balls filled with sweet ingredients such as red bean or white bean paste.

love it when I come across your posts show up, Kimi. I just love getting a little Japanese Culture info. I usually just go to the front page and click on stuff that comes on there.

I didn't even know there was an Asian Group.

Cool!

I love it also.. I have to go to Japantown to get it. Many of the restaurants carry it, and of course it can be found at Nijiya Market here in San Francisco.

I guess it was too expensive of an event since, both Sakura Matsuri and three other festivals are held in Nihonmachi. I have photos some where of our last Obon Dance from a few years ago.. I will have to look for them.

Tanoshin de kudasai ! Yoroshiku ne!!!
