Kobe enlists cyborg agent from 'Ghost in the Shell' to lure tourists

KOBE--Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg agent from the "Ghost in the Shell" anime series, doesn't need to go undercover for her new mission: promoting tourism in this historic port city.

The effort is a collaboration between Kobe municipal authorities and the producers of the latest animated feature film adaptation of the sci-fi series, which will hit Japanese theaters in June.

The series is set in a fictitious city suggestive of Kobe in the near future. Officials are hoping that fans of the movie will visit locations associated with the story.

A range of promotional activities are under way, including a special illustration with Motoko looking over the port city.
