Mindfulness in the time of Trump

I just wanted to hear responses from the group. It seems most of the current news feeds into our suffering. How do we acknowledge that and turn that around in our personal lives? Thank you for your input!

It seems like I'm drawn back too soon, perhaps too willingly to the news cycle.

But the Buddha teaches that we feed our suffering...at times I think my addiction to all things happening and all things Trump are adding to that suffering.

You could volunteer to walk dogs at the animal shelter.

For me the only thing that creates space involves doing so.ething that resets the soul.

That's not particularly restful though...

I've been trying to be more mindful in my daily interactions and carve out more time for meditation, even if it's only a few mins. That does seem to help.

I hate phoning and prefer meeting people one on one, I just hate phoning so I go door to door.

I should be able to sit in the air conditioning offices and phone without the stress but just hate it.

After a couple of hours I was melting and went to a Denny's to get cooled down and had a milk shake.

Sitting across from me was a father who was taking his 3 year old daughter for a lunch. It appeared to be a dad who was starting to work out what to do on "Dad's Saturday" because he wasn't living in the same domicile. After they ordered the daughter got out of her chair with a boost and crawled up on his lap.

I went over to the table and asked if had a smart phone with a camera and he turned the camera on and I took one of the sweetest photographs I have ever seen with this lovely daughter enjoying sitting on her dad's lap. Took a couple more and handed the camera back to him and said "check to make sure it is OK". His eyes widened and his eyes filled with water. He just smiled. Just when you feel the President has dragged us into the sewer normal people doing decent things lifts you up.

If you have time please think about phoning, it all helps get the vote out. Thanks.
