Weather Watchers

We spent our Sunday out near Beach 95 in The Rockaways, here in my home borough of Queens, documenting the absolute disaster that the beach and boardwalk we all remember so well became. On my way there, I stopped by the impromptu Rockaway Recovery Groups donation center to drop off extra warm clothing, shoes and books I hoped the survivors in the area could use. I was really inspired by the spirits of the volunteers and the resiliency of the locals going through this difficult time, living after the devastation that Hurricane Sandy and the storm surge caused. Even veteran stormchasers Scott McPartland and Dave Lewison were sobered and saddened by the damage caused by nature in Broad Channel, Howard Beach and the Rockaways, and these two rode out Hurricane Katrina in Gulfport, Mississippi.
