Do any of you go into the religious groups?

I find it hilarious that so many of the religious DUers come into this group. Some of them may come here out of interest, but it seems to be a pretty common thing to come in here looking for ammo for discussions in the Religion forum.

Why would someone do that? Why can't we just have a conversation without people looking for older posts to use in an argument? Why would theists be so interested in what we talk about here?

I'm pretty sure that through the jury process, what would be allowed for them to do here, would not be fair or balanced for what they'd allow in any other religious sub-group. It's just not worth the alerts on my posts that I'd lose.

Since I have no enthusiasm for their faith, lurking is no fun either.

Let them peek in the windows all they want. They're even free to hang out. But this is going to be a tough room for inspiration.

Show up in the men's group looking for dirt to be offended over? Guessing? Looking for an arguement, maybe? I don't go to the religious groups although I'm glad for some reason that we do have observant liberals.

I don't generally go out of my way to piss people off. I certainly stay out of churches and church groups online. If I piss them off in other areas, well sucks to be them.

And no, I don't really understand why a religious person would show up here, either.

Same as I do for groups like Astrology and Seekers On Utterly Mundane Paths.

I've sure been tempted to link to some of the wooier posts, but figured it would only get me in trouble. Even though people seem to come in here and drag stuff over to the Religion group with no trouble. Cough, cough...

I regard those groups pretty much like I do this one - as a place for people to gripe and blow off steam. I just leave them alone, except for personal entertainment as already mentioned.

I am not really interested in what they have to say in their own groups. If I did I would respect the protected status and not bring up anything I read in another group unlike some who post in the Religion forum.

I think once on DU2, I posted in one thinking it was the Religion group when I followed a link and, if memory serves, as soon as I realized it I deleted it and apologized (or just apologized--can't remember if it was past the edit window).

Other than that one mistake, I stay away. Couldn't possibly care less what they have to say.

I don't understand people who come to this group just to take the fight to Religion either. Seems to me like they are entitled to their safe place as much as we are ours.

Religion group is not a safe haven, but I generally hate conflict and don't do well with fighting with people who aren't going to listen to me anyway - and sometimes, just fight with you to try to get you to lose your temper and get something to alert on.

but none of us ever go into their groups.

Maybe that says something about religious people i.e. they can't just leave us the fuck alone, either here or in real life. There is no safe haven from religion.

Oh by the way....Hi religious lurkers! Looking for ammo? Would you kindly fuck off. Thanks. Bye bye.

And an even smaller subset who are so fucking obsessed that they pore over every post, every word, looking for something - ANYTHING - to take down the evil atheist cabal. Like, for instance, an announcement of intention to post a subject in the Religion group is obviously proof of desiring to disrupt.

Rather than alert and let the DU system take care of things, a person like that would rather pick and whine and pout in order to sidetrack any meaningful discussion.
