Atheists & Agnostics
Related: About this forumWe're still looking for volunteers for our 3rd host position
The other thread had drifted too far from its stated purpose, so I'm reposting it.
Current volunteers:
WhollyHeretic

kdmorris
A HERETIC I AM
tkmorris

If you'd like to volunteer, throw your name out for consideration. The hosts will decide in the next couple of days how the next host will be chosen.
(FWIW, I think any of the volunteers above would make a fine addition to the A&A hosting team)
A HERETIC I AM
(24,380 posts)I think the perfect word for what you could expect from my performance would be "Otiose".

(22,340 posts)This English teacher thanks you.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,380 posts)Internet Thesaurus strikes again! I started with "Useless" and went from there.
Honestly, If I am given the honor, I am of the mindset that these sorts of things can pretty much rule themselves. I am completely willing to make a decision or render and opinion when called upon to do so, but as far as active moderating if that is required.....well...suffice to say I am a live and let live kind of person. I read here more than I post obviously, but I don't read often enough to keep up with all the personality conflicts. With the exception of the glaring ones, anyway.
If you all will have me, I wont decline. Just don't expect too much.
Also, keep in mind that I am an Over The Road trucker, so most of my participation would be late in the day (as evidenced by the time stamp of this post). If something needs attention during the middle of the day, I likely won't see it till after 7 or 8 in the evening.
Now, having said all that, and at the risk of this sounding like a campaign speech, I am a firm believer in the "Safe Haven" concept of this forum, as opposed to how it was on the old DU. I have NO qualms about banning people from this group that are simply troublemakers. Argument is always fun and disagreements are to be expected, but bullshit is bullshit and at 53 years old, I can spot it from quite a distance. I'm Atheist. It is my position that ALL gods are mythical constructs. If one day mankind learns that there is indeed a transcendental, all knowing super being that can create worlds then it is something to be studied like a new species, NOT to be worshiped like some frightened pre humans looking up at a volcano or a comet. The story of the god of Abraham and Isaac and his alleged son is MYTH, nothing more.
That's my position.

(5,649 posts)I'm on the East Coast and most of my attention is from 6-8 AM ET and then from 6-10 PM ET. I'm usually in bed by 10, though last night was an exception. I work at home, so I do often read DU during long meetings or when I just need a break.
tkmorris is more of a night owl.
I'm not sure how much that matters, though. Other than that, I would say that our positions are the same... but you used a super cool word LOL
kdmorris

(9,356 posts)Great! She's been around DU a very long time, and is always calm and level-headed. Even when she's being flagrantly baited in our favorite Group.
