So, I'm completely desperate for a job. With every resume submission, I hope that someone will see how wonderful I would be as an employee and feel they cannot do without me.
I've had a few interviews and today I was called back for a second interview for a job that I think would be a good fit for me.
So, I've wished today that there was a god that I could pray to give me some extra pull with the physician that I'm seeing tomorrow. This is one of those times I really hoped a god of sorts did exist because I would be praying, sacrificing, churching, and whatever else it would take to get on his or her good side.
Isn't that what believers do? Try to get on the good side of the god they believe in to show how worthy they are?
Of course, in the end I want to be picked because they think I'm well qualified...not because I've got an inside track with any gods.

(5,963 posts)My wife and I are trying to have a child, but so far we have had no success. It's time now to start seeing doctors to make sure everything is working right. I can't help but think how nice it might be if there were some deity up there that would be willing to answer a prayer and help get things moving for us. But sadly, the universe doesn't work that way....

(48,181 posts)The whole thing is absurd anyway. The real time information processing requirements of a supernatural being interacting with the non supernatural world alone are impossible. The question of theism is irrelevant to how to live your life.

(12,253 posts)You will impress the doctor and get the job. You are all you need (plus a little help from your friends in the area of moral support). You are worthy and you will receive. Positive vibes to you!

(28,151 posts)Worrying makes one feel impotent in a situation where I could see how praying might give a true believer at least some sense of control or whatever.
I pass anxious time such as you are enduring by trying to stay busy. It sounds simplistic but it's the only way I know of to not feel so powerless over it all.
Hugs and encouragement! I'm in a similar situation. We'll get there, eventually.

(18,219 posts)to believe that there was a god who cared about me. But you can't make yourself believe.....just like the believers cannot make their god do their bidding. Even prayer would not work if it isn't going to happen.
I wish you all the luck in the world at convincing this doctor that you are the best candidate for the job. Second interviews are very encouraging. Good luck....

(14,303 posts)I definitely know your pain. Lost the house, filed bankruptcy, took a huge pay cut.
At times in the past when things were less bad, and I thought I had faith, things continued to spiral down. There was nothing to it. Tithing was bullshit. Yes, I bought into that as well.
Job market today is a numbers game with luck often deciding who gets the job. Thinking good thoughts sending out good vibes for you.
