Cloris Leachman Comes Out (As Atheist)

Cloris Leachman Comes Out (As Atheist)

"Well, when I was six years old I heard that God was watching me, and I thought, 'No, no, no, we’re not going to have any of that.' And then for many, many years I thought that God would get even with me or punish me because I didn’t believe in him, or her, or them. And nothing ever happened except for good things. So I don’t believe at all in God and I’m very relieved that I don’t. [snip] The stuff that’s made up about Jesus — that you have to go through Jesus to get to God and if you’re lucky, after you die, if you’ve done everything right, the reward is you get to sit on the right hand side of God. All that is made up by men. People made it up." - Cloris Leachman, daughter of a "fire and brimstone" preacher, coming out as an atheist.

I caught a moment on TV some time ago, she was at a roast for someone, forget who, anyway she looks around and says "would someone punch me in the face so I can see some fucking stars?" lolz

Both her and Donald Sutherland's brief scene in the beginning.

I was returning home from spending the summer with my grandparents. I never saw her - I just knew the flight was being delayed and when I got home they told me it had been held up because they were waiting for Cloris Leachman. I knew who she was (From Mary Tyler Moore and Phyllis) and thought it was pretty cool that I had been on a plane with her.

Cloris Leacman had a supporting role in the 1955 film noir gem Kiss Me Deadly. She had already established herself on various dramatic TV series.

Her part in this flick is small, but memorable.

She's one of my favorite character actors.

Kudos for her for coming out as an atheist.
