Conservatives Are Mad Because Ben Carson's Been Questioned About His Religion

Interesting article by David Corn. We saw a little of what a faith-based presidency might be like in Bush. (Although, truthfully Bush's problems were much more an issue of smallness of brain than greatness of faith.) Still, it terrifies me to think how crackpot religious ideas could inform global policies. I fantasize about the day when affirming that you have NO religious superstitions becomes the test for office.

1. Well, considering that the Guardian's photo spread of the inside of his house

features a big (lousy) painting of Ben and Jesus cosying up together, Best Friends Forever, it seems only reasonable to question Ben about just how close they are and what he thinks the Big J's feelings about, say, governing the US might be. You know, seeing as how Ben isn't going to listen to anybody else.

2. here we have another opportunity

...to expose yet another wack-o version of this God-thing nonsense. Carson's religious beliefs deserve ridicule (like all of them do), and maybe that will come if we dig into the dark vault of 7th Day Adventists.

It's chilling to think about being "governed" by the religiously insane who JUST KNOW that these are the END DAYS. There are already too many of these yahoos that have inhabited Red-state government, but at least they don't have access to "the button" or much else. I trust we won't let that happen at the national level.

I'm glad there is more to this country than just Iowa! Or Texas. Or ...

I remember hearing that some elements of the "religious community" considered the Pope to be THE BEAST, but never really knew which elements, and never really bothered to look up the nonsense, but it looks like we've hit paydirt! On top of all the current nonsense, we may get a Christian Civil War going.

If Carson does adhere to the church's paranoid and accusatory (as Seibold puts it) worldview that depicts Catholics and Sunday-worshipping evangelicals as spiritual foes in league with the Antichrist, voters might have a legitimate interest in knowing the details.

Wonder how my Carson loving, Sunday worshipping evangelical in laws will feel about this?

4. Can't let any religion be questioned

because if one is open to doubt, then all others are. Thus you see them desperately try to prove things like Scientology isn't a religion because reasons.

What doesn't follow is the insistence that Atheism is a religion, as it's used to discredit Atheism as a philosophy, that it's as common as their beliefs.
