Semantics......

In religion especially, words sometimes have to be whipped into shape. Opus Dei style.

My stance is that if you say you're Christian, you are. It's not like saying you're 'Italian' or something else that could be proved. Or like saying Ricky has a bunch of commie Italian relatives or something like that.

Christians chimed in with their personal definitions.

I think all we could come up with for a definition that encompassed all self-identified Christians IN THAT THREAD, to say nothing of more conservative Christians or other Christians around the world, was the following:

- thinks the story of Jesus depicts a good guy and a good model of morality
- thinks the Bible contains some wisdom for how to live a good life

Jesus' literal existence, his divinity, the origin and/or truth of the Bible, the resurrection...none of these could be agreed upon by all the Christians posting.
