Despite what other supposed professionals state, it is NOT OKAY, I repeat IT IS NOT OKAY to have a stranger suck the blood from your weeping wounds.
The tongue, lips, and mouth are NEVER to be used as a tourniquetting device or in place of gauze or band-aids.
I know there may be some confusion about this, as numerous medical professionals have stated that there is NO DIFFERENCE between sucking your OWN blood off your OWN finger with your OWN mouth, and having some herpes-laden STRANGER suck YOUR blood off YOUR finger with HIS mouth.
THIS IS NOT OKAY.
Just want to clear up any confusion that may lie in whether or not it's okay to lick strangers open wounds, or have strangers lick yours. IT IS NOT.
You may now continue to your regularly scheduled baby-roasting

Speaking of which, I've heard some rumors that dog tongues are actually excellent disinfectants, despite having recently been licking some other dogs butt, or having been involved in communal turd munching. So should we train dogs for this service?

(9,116 posts)Heads would roll. End of story.
And if you read the story, you'll find what these not-doctors have thus far formulated isn't really all that great. They're talking about informing people of the risks beforehand, and maybe working with diagnostic laboratories to find fault should terrible things happen. In neither case is the safety of the child improved in any meaningful way.
A bunch of bullshitters are painting the walls with their excrement, and the "progressives" here are calling it art.

(7,753 posts)in which the notion of "authenticity" is examined to explain why people can be so dumb in their anti-science-back-to-nature bullshit that "we are caught in the grip of a fierce nostalgia, where the thought of contracting a disease like the measles is not something to be feared, but to be welcomed as a sign of our profound connection to nature."
The parallels with religion and "faith" are obvious.

(9,356 posts)I only vaguely remember it, so someone else may correct me. And it might have been an episode of "Twilight Zone" or something.
Anyway, the plot:
1. Rich guy hates modern America, loves the idea of Old West America. When men were men etc.
2. Hires a physicist to send him back in time. Goes to sleep...
3. Wakes on a train in the Old West. Horrified to find himself surrounded by filthy unwashed people who stink. Gets to town, must wade to hotel thru mud and horse shit. Hotel overrun with vermin etc. So the good old days are not so good, and getting worse...
4. Guy gets minor cut, which gets infected. Dies because antibiotics haven't been invented yet.

(17,505 posts)Like the 18th century.... all that silk and gold, lace and jewels! So beautiful....
But Marie Antoinette may look amazing in her portraits....
But she probably has lice....her bed has bed bugs..... she's covered in scented powder and perfume because they don't bathe in winter (for good reasons actually) There are no indoor bathrooms at Versailles so the lords and ladies "caught short" are peeing in the potted pants and under the stairs...
The reality is ghastly.
( I often get "why don't they bathe?". Well think about: 1st you have to draw water from a well and carry it up to the house. Then you have to build a fire to heat it. Now, after your bath, there you are soaking wet in a house without heat and pneumonia can kill you. So...yes they do bathe in summer. And even in winter maybe once or twice....if you're wealthy enough to have all those servants you need to get the bath ready.)

May I take this a step further and suggest that even using your own mouth to suck your own blood off you own finger isn't the smartest move. Sure, you can do it and not get an infection. But you never know what bacteria came into your mouth with that piece of lettuce that has been stuck between your teeth for who knows how long. Just don't do it, folks.
I am shocked and disgusted by this whole thing, and I agree that there would be no question on this practice except that it is all about Bronze Age/Iron Age tradition. Basically....religion.

(725 posts)I learn a lot of medical science that some religions don't want us to pay attention to.
I cannot imagine any progressive apologist for religion excusing this bronze age practice, but I went "over there", and I saw it in black and white on my computer screen.
We are terrible terrible people, us atheists, for having an "agenda" against religious traditions and in favor of human infant health. Horrible people we atheists must be.
