Today, Brody released another segment from his interview where the conservative activist was joined by his wife, Candy, to describe how God is calling him to make a presidential bid.

“We recognize that we are being instruments in the hand of God, he is the one who really orchestrates all of this,” Carson said.

After warning that the future of America is in peril, Carson stressed that “we are in fact a Judeo-Christian nation and I think that’s a huge part of our strength.”

I know I speak for everyone when I say that I'm glad I live in a country where religion and politics are completely separate spheres of influence, and that Atheists should just shut the hell up about this so-called "separation of church and state" because, as we all know, religion really has no influence outside of the bounds of the pulpit on Sunday mornings.

because REAL christians don't ever do bad things.

Also---

This man, who feels the tingly fingers of Jesus---is that a delusion? Does he really feel Jesus scratching his back? Should we really entertain the idea of electing someone who feels not just a spiritual presence, but a physical presence of a deity regarding a run for political office?

People routinely (yes, even the good God lovers in that "other" forum) mocked Dennis Kuchinich and his comments about aliens. A politician talking about aliens? THATS CRAZY TALK GET THAT MAN OFF THE STAGE AND PUT HIM IN A PADDED ROOM

Yet talk about God telling you to do this, scratching your leg to do that, gently pushing with a guiding hand to invade here or there, and oh! God Bless America! What a Christian Patriot!!??!?!!!111!!?!

Astounding. I'm happy and proud to say that the minute anyone says that X told them to run for Y public office, they have lost my vote, regardless of the letter behind their name. I want people to be guided by their desire to help others, not guided by disembodied voices of long-dead deities

** My distrust of people who are guided by God into different professions does not end in politics. I always give a hairy eyeball to someone to says that "God" guided them to be an MD, RN, accountant, etc. It's as if they couldn't have possibly thought of that on their own, they had to be guided by God. Me, I was guided by a steady paycheck and the opportunity to do neat and gross things. It was only once I started studying the basics that I realized I was actually good at it, and that I would be helping people in the process.

Kind of like NOT robbing a bank--yeah, it's great that you didn't do it, but I think it makes a difference if you didn't rob the bank because you know it's the wrong thing to do, and not robbing the bank because you don't want to get in trouble. In the end, the action (or inaction) is the same, but the motivation of moral compulsion vs. fear of shame is a huge barrier. I think less of people who do the right thing only because they don't want to get in trouble, rather than doing it because it's the right thing.

Except to say that--at least as far as politics goes--I don't think half these yahoos actually believe what they say wrt religion, but they know it's red meat to their base, who swallow it whole and can never seem to get enough.

Especially now that christianity is so imperiled, and its followers under such relentless attack by people who dare open their mouths to offer opposing views.

I was wondering how a doctor could be so stupid. I admit I never really looked into his story because I thought he was just another Herman Cain. Say right-wing BS and get a lot of attention. That will work for any black man. Now that I see he is just another religious whacko, I now understand how he can say such stupid shit.

Unless this is just another act....'cause y'know those black folks loves them some Jesus.... or something. Religion does seem to have a different kind of hold over the black community in general than the white community. This makes sense to me considering their histories over here. And just like with all religious people, paying the god card does seem to make religious people more trusting.

and I agree. Anyone who spouts, "God told me to" is highly suspect in my eyes. Either you are totally deluded and hallucinating or you are a stinking liar out to pull the wool over the rubes eyes (and that is so easy to do if you wear the Jesus on your sleeve).

And why was Jesus apparently more of a liberal if he represents 1/3 of the God trilogy? (You know, feed the poor, hang out with the lepers and prostitutes, etc.)

I wonder if the Holy Ghost is a commie.
