A Republican staffer on Friday apologized for a Facebook post that criticized Malia and Sasha Obama's appearance at the annual White House turkey pardon ceremony, one of America's silliest holiday traditions.
Elizabeth Lauten, the communications director for Rep. Stephen Fincher (R-Tenn.), wrote that the two teenagers should "try showing a little class," "dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar," and, most of all, "don't make faces" at Very Serious public events...
Dear Sasha and Malia, I get youre both in those awful teen years, but youre a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play. Then again your mother and father dont respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter, so Im guessing youre coming up a little short in the good role model department...
Lauten later apologized for rushing to judgment on Facebook.
"I reacted to an article and quickly judged the two young ladies in a way that I would never have wanted to be judged myself as a teenager," she said. "After many hours of prayer, talking to my parents and re-reading my words online, I can see more clearly how hurtful my words were. Please know that these judgmental feelings truly have no place in my heart. Furthermore, I'd like to apologize to all of those who I have hurt and offended with my words, and pledge to learn and grow (and I assure you I have) from this experience."

From the Comments:
"After many hours of prayer......I can see more clearly how hurtful my words were." Too bad prayers don't give you a clue in the first place.
My thought was "Many hours of prayer??" How about 3.5 seconds of common sense? That's enough for the rest of us.
"Show a little class" Republican for "you're not White".

What in the hell has gotten into today's GOP? Oh yeah, the black guy in the White House.

(6,604 posts)Sounds about right. In my home growing up, there was a plaque in the kitchen that read, "Prayer Changes Things."
It sure does. It puts the brakes on the rational thought process, and provides a convenient (if unconvincing) cover for being able to spout all sorts of hateful shit.
"Look, I said some rosaries! All better!"

Lauten used to be New Media Director for the Republican National Committee. So she must've already pissed off somebody, going from that job to Comm Dir for an unknown Tenn. Congress-critter.
The Daily Kos mentioned that, as it gave her a good thumping:
First, the good news. Don Imus called to say "Thank You!" After your recent comments about the Obama girls, no one will remember why they were mad at him. That was really white of you...
We understand how hard it must be for you to choke down the bile that rises in your throat every time you hear about those black people living in the White House. After all, they are such low class, trailer park trash. Definitely not Junior League material, like you. And nothing like the Bush girls. Oh...wait a second... let's skip the Bush girls, shall we? What I meant was the Obama kids are nothing like the Palin kids... uh... let's skip them, too, OK? Let's focus on you, Miss Lauten...
We feel your pain, dear. It must feel awful, moving from a position as New Media Director for the RNC during a presidential campaign down to Communications Director for the House Republicans and then getting demoted to a lowly staff position for a lowly representative. That must be so disheartening. The strain is starting to show...
Surely, someone told you the stuff you post on the InterToobs is there forever? Maybe you thought they were kidding. Maybe you thought it was short attention span theater out here. Maybe you thought being blonde bought you special privileges. Well, bless your heart. Whoever told you that, they were telling you some mighty tall tales. You're just going to have to live with the knowledge this tar baby is gonna stick to you like white on rice. You might want to give Monica a call for some life advice. You're gonna need it.
