PS: I sooo wanted to include this in the last Meme of the Week, but felt it didn't quite make the cut for inspiring a good discussion/debate.
Plus, it's "Fight Club".

(28,151 posts)So you were probably right in saying it's not really a discussion starter. I really like it though so thanks for posting it! Also, love the meme of the week threads!

(9,035 posts)I never saw "Fight Club" so I have no idea what the "first rule" of Fight Club would be.

(5,352 posts)is that you don't talk about Fight Club.
I didn't see it until a long time after it came out, by which point the final plot twist had been spoiled for me. (Don't worry, the first rule isn't it.)

(4,031 posts)... the rules go like this:
Welcome to Fight Club.
The first rule of Fight Club is: you do not talk about Fight Club.
The second rule of Fight Club is: you DO NOT talk about Fight Club!
Third rule of Fight Club: someone yells "stop!", goes limp, taps out, the fight is over.
Fourth rule: only two guys to a fight.
Fifth rule: one fight at a time, fellas.
Sixth rule: No shirts, no shoes.
Seventh rule: fights will go on as long as they have to, and
The eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.
The film is a complete narcissistic/nihilistic/testosterone soaked romp, but with a lot of good quotes, such as:
"Who are you?"
Who am I? Theres a sign outside that says Lous Tavern. Im fucking Lou.
"In the world I see - you are stalking elk through the damp canyon forests around the ruins of Rockefeller Center. You'll wear leather clothes that will last you the rest of your life. You'll climb the wrist-thick kudzu vines that wrap the Sears Tower. And when you look down, you'll see tiny figures pounding corn, laying strips of venison on the empty car pool lane of some abandoned superhighway."

(4,031 posts)...but it is funny.
When I post the Meme polls on Mondays, I have notice that within only a very few minutes there are something like 35+ views and maybe 1 vote (usually none) and no comments or RECs. I get the impression that our usual members here in A&A don't start voting/posting till after they have shuffled in with their bunny slippers and have had their morning coffee (yeah I know, eastern time zone centric).
I noticed this early when I went back to make an edit once and was curious to track the phenomenon in later postings.
It feels like we are being watched on every post we make (paranoid much?), and they (the usual suspect 'theys') are just waiting to alert on anything that might be the slightest bit offensive (case in point with Hoppy's post).

(111,339 posts)It wasn't 100% PC but its accuracy made it pretty funny. Now that it has been hidden, more people will likely click to see just what was so terrible and over the top it needed to be hidden.

(9,356 posts)Tell me I can't see something, then fuck you, I'll go out of my way to see it.
I'm guessing Concerned Poster thought it was "homophobic." My gay boss from some time ago would have laughed his own ass off at that pic. He loved getting a rise...er, shocking people.
A semi-redneck in our office (not me, another one) once asked him when he first knew that he was gay.
"I always knew it," Boss replied. "Hell, when I was a kid, I used to offer candy to child molesters."
Semi-redneck got all flustered and never asked anything like that again.
In fact, I'd love to show my old boss that pic. But he died of HIV. And that's the important issue, Concerned Poster. Not policing our damn group.
