Impressive letter to the editor in our local paper

I do not know the letter writer, but I wish I did. He is from an area that is very rural and very red, so this letter had to have been a challenge for him. I even looked in our telephone book to see if I could find him to congratulate him, but he isn't listed. Putting this in black and white on the editorial page, with your name required, is more than I have the nerve to do.

Here is an excerpt from the letter. I can't post a link, because our paper is fee only for online access:

This letter is in response to ____'s reaction ...about right wing religious conservatism and LGBT rights. The conclusion to his letter stated he doesn't believe in gay marriage.

Fact is that gay marriage does exist---believe it or not. ..... Believing that something is so doesn't make it so.

Believing that a God exists is a delusion shared by many. That doesn't make it so. Getting one's "facts" from the Bible is not the way to truth. Liberals may be highly critical of conservative views when they lack reason.

Just a single piece of good evidence would help.

Just ONE.

One piece of evidence.

And please, don't tell me that the evidence is in the sunrise and the sunset and the wonders of this earth.

...that fucking annoying Sparkle paper towel fairy. Get off my TV!

If she ever accosts me in the grocery store, I'm reaching for the biggest can of Raid on the shelf. Then I'm going to show her a new place to carry her damn magic wand.

On-topic - I've written a couple of LTTEs and had Fundies call me up at home to discuss how "mistaken" I am. They had to dig some to find my home phone number - I live in a very big city and have a very common name. So yes, I'm a big fan of internet anonymity...

Since they stayed anonymous too. This happened twice. Both times, I told them to write their own LTTE and not call me again. Then I hung up when they started with the argle-bargle about me being a hellbound Communist etc.

Once when visiting my Mom in East Jesus-stan, someone wrote to the local paper saying that the Founders REALLY meant to declare this a Xian nation. But they just sorta forgot to put it in the Constitution. The papers back there run these kind of letters about once a week.

But for some reason, I felt compelled to answer this one. So I gathered the usual quotes directly from the Founders. Stuff that's trivially easy to find.

Couple of days later, the paper printed a response. It basically said "Mr. Onager thinks he's so smart with his facts, but his fancy education won't do him any good when he's boiling in Hellfire..." etc. etc. The usual crap.

That gave me a good laugh. As someone once said on the InternetZ: "If elitist means 'not the dumbest motherfucker in the room,' then OK, you can call me elitist."

and of course if a non-believer did that to them they would get lawyers involved immediately, but I understand how that wouldn't go down very well for the village atheist to try and do.

I like that last line, may steal it for... something...

How could he have the nerve to say this publically??? He should just STFU.

And I would bet that there were several people who told him so. I am waiting for the letters on the editorial page condemning him to hell. Do I have the nerve to write a letter to the editor defending him? I don't know.
