Scandals causing more Germans to leave Catholic Church, cardinal says

Not a bad thing at all!

http://www.catholicnews.com/data/stories/cns/1403242.htm

The church reported that Sunday Mass attendance dropped from 11.7 percent to 10.8 percent of Catholics during the year, compared to 22 percent in 1989. Church baptisms and marriages also fell.

In addition, the number of Catholic parishes dropped during 2013 by 137 to just over 11,000 after several of the country's 27 dioceses launched reorganizations to cope with declining membership.

Presenting the report, Cardinal Reinhard Marx of Munich and Freising, president of the German bishops' conference, said the statistics should be a wake-up call to the German church about the need for "good and convincing work to rebuild confidence at all levels."

Or perhaps people are just realizing that having morality dictated to them by a bunch of celibate, corrupt old men is unacceptable.

Their rigid stance against reproductive health care for women is driving people away and they're too blinkered to see it.

I was watching reruns of a British show a while ago and someone quoted something from the Bible, and one of the guests said, "Well that's all rubbish, isn't it?" And everyone laughed. I sat there with my mouth open because I knew if someone said that on American TV, they would be out of a career.

Europeans laugh at how incredibly backwards we are; most especially our religious nuts. I'm surprised any Germans at all are going to church. A couple of generations and that will be over.

Let's run this through the ol' process analyzer shall we:

Step 1: Recognize there's a problem.

There are remarkably fewer asses in seats. I'm thinking it would have been hard to miss.

Step 2: Understand the nature of the problem.

They admit to having some difficulty relating to modern Germans...

Step 3: Do something about it.

Oh, wait. They can't. Because they are completely inflexible on all of the issues that have put them on the wrong side of modern Germany society.

Well, at least they have all that land ownership shit to fall back on. And a shitload of tax money.
