You win the Internet!

(9,356 posts)You do not have the power to award the Internet to anyone!
I read something like that in...er...another group. At first I could not believe anyone could be so clueless. "You win the Internet" and its variants have been around a long time.
Then I saw who posted the message and thought: yep, that particular poster CAN be that clueless.

(13,986 posts)It would have been more fun to say "I have faith that the Internets are awardable", but I haven't the energy for what would ensue.

(13,485 posts)I think you will find humans do good things, and humans do bad things, god or no.
Atheists have been give the stigma by many theists that we are bad, terrible, selfish, lying, dangerous, worshipers of science and Satan. These posters are trying to relieve that falsehood by showing a few normal people with love, joy and peace in their hearts and lives to help break that irrational prejudice. That's the point.

(16,223 posts)we read Albert Camus' The Plague. It was interesting that our professor pointed out that although the doctor in the story is an atheist, he still helps people during the plague at great peril to his own health. "Why would he help people with no god to guide him?" asked our professor. The most on-her-sleeve religious student in the class raised her hand. "Because if he doesn't, who will?" Exactly. Atheists I have met have a firm grasp on the need to help others rather than pray for the person and hope someone else does it. Many religious folks also do good works. They don't need a pat on the back to do something for someone else. So we don't hear about them on the news like the trademark Xtians.
