Some definitions for our newer members...

Hi newer members,

If you're venturing between this group and the "R" group, you may be occasionally baffled and go "WTF?"

That may be because you're just not familiar with the...uh...original way things are defined in That Other Group.

So I've compiled this handy list to help you out. And I encourage everybody to join in and add their own definitions:

Atheism (definition) = whatever we say it is. Ignore any actual atheists who define atheism. They don't know what they are talking about and will only confuse you.

Atheism, Organized = a hive-mind of horrible misogynists led by RPOWMs (see below). Ignore all those women claiming to be involved in Organized Atheism. They don't know what they are talking about and will only confuse you.

Atheism, Unorganized = millions of people who claim they don't belong to Organized Atheism and could care less about it. They are lying. See also "Illuminati."

Christians, Fundamentalist = assholes. A tiny but loud religious minority with almost no impact on modern American law, culture, etc.

Christians, Liberal = not assholes. The last best hope of humanity, sure to surge forward en masse any day now and conquer the world. Currently discussing our latest project, to ensure the election of JFK.

Demonic possession = newly discovered scientific explanation of mental illness.

Devil = the Father Of Lies, Source Of All Evil, etc. Currently rumored to be hanging around Oxford University in England.

God = whatever we say it is, just like atheism. Otherwise no connection - and how DARE you suggest that!

Good Atheists = there are a few and they can be easily trained. Start with the command "Roll over and equivocate."

Hitler, Adolf = an atheist. Trust us on this one, you don't need to look it up.

Jesus = a liberal, just like us. Well, except for the Hell stuff. And smiting that fig tree. And killing those Gadarene swine. And dissing his own Mom. And...oh, just trust us on this one too!

Militant Atheist = any atheist who disagrees with us about anything, no matter how politely. You really have to watch out for the polite ones. See also "Illuminati."

Other Ways of Knowing - knowledge gained by non-scientific, non-traditional means. Can be summed up with the technical definition "pulled out of my ass."

Peace, Peace Out (as closing of a message) = fuck off and die, atheist scum.

Persecution = any criticism of Christianity or Christians.

Relevance Trap = careful with this one. It means quickly posting any article from anywhere attacking atheism without bothering to check for context or hidden agendas. Highly encouraged just for the "attack atheists factor," though it sometimes leads to unintentional results. e.g., when your objective journalist happens to be an ex-lover, a Fundamentalist Christian or a neo-Nazi.

RPOWM = rich privileged old white men, a/k/a leaders of organized atheism. Remember, it's not classism, racism, ageism or sexism when we do it. Because we're the persecuted Christian minority. All 1.5 billion of us...

Stalin, Josef = early 20th-century leader of Organized Atheism. May still be alive around Oxford University in England.

Vicious personal attack = disagreed with me

Witch Burnings, Crusades, Inquisitions = attempts by early Organized Atheism to smear Christianity. It almost worked, but we are busy correcting the so-called historical record right now.

"Anti-theist" - Anyone who says anything critical concerning religious beliefs even if it is true or if certain ones in Religion deem it so.

New Atheist = A particularly hateful subgroup of atheists that stubbornly refuse to learn their place and stop criticizing religion.

Bigotry = Disagrees with me.

Edited to add:

Athiest = Someone that doesn't know enough about atheists to spell the world properly, but will frequently claim to have been or even to currently be one.

"I'm an athiest, but I think Christians are the best and anyone that criticizes them is a new athiest bigot."

Bigotry wrapped in prayer is not bigotry - it can't be because we are Christians and therefore always right. Bigotry means criticism of religion and believers. If I disagree with you it's because I see and feel and know things that you don't; if you disagree with me it's because you're a bigot.

Agnostic-A person, above the fray between believers and non-believers, who in no way shape or form fits our ever shifting definition of an atheist even when they do. Again, trust us on this.

Nones: People who identify as attaching themselves to "no religion or belief system" in surveys. Sure, they say they're not affiliated with any religion or belief system, but they'd totally be down with me and my beliefs if they did affiliate themselves, which they don't, but they totally would if they did. Totes.

Pope: Man who is figurehead of Catholic Church. Has no real power. Nothing he says has any meaning to any Catholics. He does not change or create religious doctrine. Most Catholics don't even know his name. Nothing he says ever has relevance to the Catholic Church. And even if he could change religious doctrine, it would take a very very long time so jeeze louise the guy's only been in office for what, like less than FOREVER you gotta give him time. THESE THINGS TAKE TIME.

Atheist as a religion = wherever two or more are gathered against His name, it is a church.

But might I just add, if you are a newer member who is venturing into that "other" group, take it from me and just don't.

Religion: What atheism "really" is. Atheists "believe" there's no god, therefore atheism is a religion.

You came up with lots of excellent definitions I forgot.

And we made the Greatest Page? HA! Unbelievable. That's a miracle that makes virgin birth seem almost ordinary.

Well, if we annoyed even 1 smug believer, it was worth the effort. At least that's my opinion.
