I had a conversation with a friend about this incident (we are both in Alabama). He thought it was entirely appropriate because God should be in every governmental decision. He could not comprehend my point that his god was not everyone's god. He kept saying, "There is only one god".

Can't. Get. Through!

The Alabama Public Service Commission is a quasi-executive, elected agency of the Alabama state government, responsible for regulating the state's utility companies. The commission's mission is to "ensure a regulatory balance between regulated companies and consumers in order to provide consumers with safe, adequate and reliable services at rates that are equitable and economical."

This is against the law. I'm not sure what I would have done if I were sitting in that room...were there any Jews there? Muslims? Atheists? Secular Americans who knew it was wrong?

You should go post this in GD, let everyone see this comical State Agency in all its glory.

At least probably not to Jews, no to Muslims, probably no Atheists that would admit to it, and any Secular Americans that were present would probably wisely keep their mouth shut, because having someone sending your wife/husband/kids death threats because you objected to their crazy-assed prayer would kind of suck.

Posting it in GD would result in no less than three Christians wasting perfectly good wood building crosses to nail themselves to to feel persecuted.

Thanks for the laugh this morning. I live in the South, grew up here so I'm used to public praying in strange places by complete strangers but this? I think any DU-er of 'good faith' would recognize the problem here.

But they don't call this Bible Belt for nothing y'know! I am speaking from a southern perspective and even I am shocked by the flagrant disregard for Separation of Church & State in that video.

!!1!!

prayer at a city council meeting isn't important
handing out of religious tracts at school isn't important
religious symbols on government-owned property isn't important

To the religious, we need to only focus on the important things.

But nothing we focus on is important.

ergo, nothing is important.

They should focus only on important things, instead of trying to dismantle the Constitution.

Oh wait, maybe that IS important.

They are carrying water for the Republicans by scaring away all decent Christians who would otherwise embrace everything about the Democratic party platform if it weren't for a few vocal atheists posting on message boards, dammit!

I just went to youtube and read over the transcript of what he actually said. Yeah, it's outright political, talking about God in schools, murdering 'His children', same sex marriage etc.

I guess these people, this agency, won't be prosecuted for fear of losing the South altogether. The sad fact is though, day by day, they are radicalizing locally. It's shocking to see and in my opinion worth the lost votes to bring attention to the matter.
