when posting or commenting in a forum. They are things I probably fail to do daily but it's a goal anyway....
1. Be open to change if the information necessitates it.
2. Try to understand the vague or gray areas so they are no longer vague or gray.
3. Try NOT to win an argument. To try to win an argument only for winnings sake muddles the process of learning. I'm in it for the knowledge not the game.
4. Never mock either outwardly, subliminally or in code.
5. Give the benefit of the doubt with people's intention. I can't read minds and usually impressions of other's writing is heavily tainted by our own prejudices.
6. Let believers believe; that's their business. Only offer the Atheist position if it is appropriate to the conversation, not as a dérailleur.
7. Beware of angry, immovable descent. It is of no value to drive a point home if it drives a wedge between you and the opposition.
8. There is a time to take offense or even attack, but only if the process of discussion is being undermined.
9. Respect is always necessary, but not by wimping out.
10. Call'm as I see'm, but only if I see's as I call'm. It's not about saving face.
11. Saving face is meaningless.
12. If an apology is called for, give it. If not, don't. Pseudo apologies to pacify are dumb as hell.
13. Pausing to think is not a sign of weakness, it's a sign of wisdom.
14. Listen and compare, compare and listen. Conclusion comes last.
That's what I am thinking for now.

(19,288 posts)Moderating a debate between believers and nonbelievers takes tact on both parts or there can't be a discussion. I've seen tips before but yours seem very well thought out. Nice job.
