It seems they don't have a clue that they're bad translations from a bad Greek translation of the original.

I do love doctrinal nitpicking by people who are ignorant of the most basic facts, the hideously bad translation of the supposed word of gawd being the foremost one.

I've had this argument with the younger one before - he's right now asking the other one if he's "even tried cross-referencing with the Greek lexicon" and I am lmao - cross reference with what? OTHER badly translated 3rd or 4th or moreth generation hand-me-downs of oral stories? Greek Lexicon? lol! I should have stuck around home a lot longer - I left when they were still in Jr High - but I had to get away from my fundie mother and step-father..maybe I could have prevented some of this...

before you made a dent on any of them. If you've managed to agree to disagree and drop the subject, that's an armed truce that's the best you can expect and one you can live with.

Besides, it sounds like they're having a lot of fun arguing over nothing.

And they do have fun. They are both in their 40s but when I see them arguing on the facebook it looks to me exactly like we were when they were 9 and 10. They argued all the time about everything and still do. They are both within a year of each other in age (when we were much younger everyone thought they were twins) but I'm about 5 years older than them so we never had adventures together and bonded that way. lol, I think armed truce is the best we ever managed even when the only argument was who got the last Eggo waffle. (Me.) (The younger one still complains about that too. Maybe I'll send him a box of Eggos with the picture bible)

hence the argument between my brothers - one adheres to those sentiments while the other thinks KJV isn't including everything it should...he's a little tiny bit more liberal about some things but not enough to make a real difference lol...

For instance he still thinks being gay is wrong but not because he thinks it's a sin - he just doesn't think it's natural (and a personal god IS natural). He wouldn't vote to oppose marriage equality but he wouldn't fight for it either.

I love when this happens. My bible is better. It's got better magic and giants and people coming back to life. Too bad they won't convert to the old gods like me. At least I know it's fake.
It reminds me of arguing with my husband last week about old gods vs. R'hllor. I'm old gods all the way, and he loves the phony red god. Nobody cares about the seven.

Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!"

He said, "Nobody loves me."
I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?"
He said, "Yes."
I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?"
He said, "A Christian."
I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?"
He said, "Protestant."
I said, "Me, too! What franchise?"
He said, "Baptist."
I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?"
He said, "Northern Baptist."
I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist."
I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region."
I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?"
He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912."
I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.
